Job Overview
The Sales Associate / Cashier is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, accurately processing sales transactions, and maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the butcher shop area. This role requires product knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a positive, helpful attitude to ensure a superior customer experience.
- Greets customers in a polite and friendly manner, process transactions accurately, and provide an engaging, informative shopping experience.
- Answer customer questions about meat types, cuts, preparation methods, sourcing, and pricing.
- Proactively suggest products based on customer needs and current promotions.
- Handle customer complaints and concerns in a professional and efficient manner, escalating to management when necessary.
- Take special orders accurately and ensure they are communicated clearly to the butchers.
- Assist with stocking shelves, maintaining a clean and attractive front-of-house area, and preparing non-meat retail items.
- Act as a representative of the business, enhancing the shop's reputation and brand through high-quality customer interactions.
- Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system and cash register efficiently and accurately.
- Process various forms of payment, including cash, credit/debit cards, and mobile payments.
- Ensure the front-of-house area, including displays, counters, and shelving, is clean, stocked, and visually appealing.
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Previous experience in retail, customer service, or a food-related environment is preferred.
- A demonstrated interest in specialty food, cooking, or the product being sold.
- Safe Food Handling Certification is considered an asset
- Basic math skills and comfort with handling cash and operating a POS system.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

- Willingness to learn about different meat cuts and butchery products.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights (up to 25 lbs) as required.
- Ability to stand and walk for the majority of a shift.
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 25 pounds.
- Comfortable working in a refrigerated environment for short periods (when assisting with stocking/retrieving).
