This position includes safety responsibilities required for all aspects of IUS safety. This includes, but is not limited to, performing all aspects of the OH and UG crew’s safety needs. This position is regularly involved in leading safety meetings, periodically updating the rubber glove and sleeve change-out database, and the training matrix, assisting in the apprenticeship program, and is expected to perform weekly crew visits, which include, but are not limited to, conducting observations. This position is also expected to help manage rubber protective equipment and live-line tools to ensure all equipment is tested and OSHA-compliant.
- Field visits are associated with both overhead and underground crews, fleet, and office safety.
- Conduct monthly safety meetings for all employees.
- Manages rubber glove and sleeve data base to ensure compliance with OSHA and are changed out in a timely manner.
- Manages and periodically replaces rubber gloves, sleeves, and safety equipment to ensure crew members are safe and in compliance with OSHA rules and regulations.
- Enforces all inter-company, Federal, and State safety regulations for our industry.
- Is familiar with OSHA and DOT regulations.
- Shares responsibility with the Operations team for the proper training of personnel in the safe operation of equipment and tools.
- Conducts crew observations weekly along with Safety Professionals.
- Assist Safety Management in managing the Apprenticeship Program to fulfill both OJT and testing requirements.
- Performs new employee orientations.
- Conduct incident investigations to identify the root cause of an incident and develop corrective actions to be implemented.
- Administers developed and needed safety and industry training
- Have proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as other computer applications.
- Willingness to travel in-state or to other states to support IUS crews on storm restoration efforts.
- Attend business partner safety meetings as an IUS Representative.
- High school diploma or GED
- College Degree in Safety not required, but preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of related industry experience or 5 years of safety professional experience in the Electrical Distribution industry.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good Leadership skills
- Thorough understanding of the practices, methods, equipment, materials, and tools of the electrical trade.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Ability to communicate safety in a non-combative and constructive manner.
- Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens
- Satisfactory results of the pre-employment background check results
- A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required
- Clean driving record with current driver's license.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening test.
- Must be willing to consent to a background check.
- Must be able and willing to obtain Basic First Aid and CPR Certification (Company Provided)
- Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Must be willing to assist in any task that needs to be completed on the project.
- Requires physical activity, including lifting, standing, or manual tasks.
- May involve working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Must be open to extended times away from home as well as working holidays.
