Project Overview:
The Walsh-VINCI Transit Community Partners (WVTCP) Joint Venture consisting of VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Walsh Construction has been selected to construct the $2.9BN Design Build Red Line Extension (RLE) project – the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). The RLE Mainline Design-Build (MDB) Project will extend the CTA's Red Line by 5.6 miles, extending from the existing terminal at 95th/Dan Ryan south to 130th Street and Doty Avenue.
As the Safety Manager on the $2.7BN Red Line Extension Project (RLE) in Chicago-Illinois, you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with the project safety program across the entire project. In this role, you will provide leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) processes, managing complex projects with a strong focus on continuous improvement to enhance overall HSE performance.
Responsibilities:
•Develop and implement a comprehensive HSE plan, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory standards.
•Lead safety initiatives and promote a strong safety culture across all phases of the project.
•Oversee subcontractor compliance, risk reduction, and hazard mitigation efforts
•Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
•Manage safety training programs, including new hire orientations and ongoing education.
•Supervise and mentor HSE professionals, ensuring effective accident prevention efforts
•Oversee job hazard analysis, emergency response coordination, and regulatory compliance.
•Ensure proper documentation, maintaining safety records, reports, and certifications.
•Provide weekly HSE updates and facilitate continuous safety process improvements.
•Perform additional duties as assigned by the Project ES&H Director or Area Project Manager
Qualifications and skills:
Required
•High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
•Minimum 15 years of construction safety experience, including heavy construction.
•Ability to think and work independently
•Facilitate the implementation of corrections/behaviors.
•Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation or currently pursuing certification, along with Safety Trained Supervisor-Construction (STS-C) and CHST (Construction Health & Safety Technician) certifications.
•First aid/CPR/AED Certified.
•Knowledge and understanding of OSHA Construction Standards, CTA Safety Standards, and other state and federal agency guidelines
•Team player with a professional image, capable of handling highly confidential information.
•Demonstrate technical and analytical problem-solving skills.
•Proficient in MS Office Suite.
Preferred
•Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field (Construction Management, Safety, etc.).
Salary Range
$155,000 to $170,000
Work Environment:
•Required to stand, sit, walk, and/or climb stairs or ladders
•Involves a dynamic and challenging work environment
•Indoor and outdoor work in the hot and cold
•Fast-paced environment that may require long hours, including nights and weekends
•Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and reflective vests when on-site
Physical Demands:
•Must be able to lift 25lbs
•Walking and standing while in-office or on-site
•Occasional climbing on and off equipment and bending
