Austin Powder is seeking a dynamic and experienced SHES Manager
to lead safety, health, environmental, and security operations at our Red Diamond Plant in McArthur, Ohio. This role is critical to ensuring regulatory compliance, operational safety, and environmental stewardship across a 1,300-acre facility supporting the production of energetic materials and explosives for commercial use.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable safety, health, environmental, and security regulations.
- Oversee licensing and regulatory requirements including air, water quality, hazardous waste, spill response, and wastewater treatment operations.
- Maintain strong working relationships with regulatory agencies including Ohio EPA, EPA, DOT/PHMSA, ATF, DHS/CFATS, NFPA, FRA, and OSHA/MSHA.
- Manage permitting processes (Non-Title V, NPDES, RCRA) and maintain annual compliance calendars.
- Lead spill response, emergency planning, and RCRA contingency procedures.
- Investigate and report unplanned events internally and externally.
- Deliver regular safety and compliance updates to production, management, and leadership teams.
- Maintain monthly SHES reporting and support capital project planning.
- Collaborate with internal teams to implement SHES policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Support environmental abatement systems and ensure data accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate with Training Coordinator to deliver specialized and refresher safety training.
- Maintain and safeguard environmental records and regulatory reports.
- Monitor and report SHES KPIs and incident/injury records.
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 6 years of professional experience in EHS within a manufacturing environment.
- At least 1 year of experience with industrial wastewater treatment operations.
- Strong leadership presence with a hands-on approach.
- Deep understanding of OSHA PSM regulations and environmental compliance (wastewater, air, hazardous waste).
- Knowledge of CFR 49 and HAZMAT regulations.
- Ability to manage emergency response plans and conduct campus-wide drills.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite.
- Effective communicator across all organizational levels.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, even under uncertainty.
- Demonstrated ability to manage regulatory changes and updates (SPCC, SWPPP, HMBP, etc.).
- Travel: Occasional travel may be required.
- Physical Demands: Must be able to navigate industrial environments, including outdoor and indoor facilities, and participate in emergency response activities.
