This position will create and maintain a culture of safety and health at Pine Hall Brick. The Safety, Health & Environmental Specialist is responsible for the overall management of the Company’s safety, health and environmental programs related to OSHA, MSHA, and Tier II compliance.
- Plans, organizes, and administers Company-wide safety program and coordinates the employee safety and health training program to ensure environmental protection, worker safety, public safety and regulatory compliance.
- Ensures that managers and employees effectively apply workplace safety rules and procedures, are informed of and practice safe work practices in accordance with established company safety rules and occupational safety and health guidelines.
- Ensures compliance with various federal, state and local regulations related to air, water, fuel storage, hazardous materials, and records maintenance.
- Develops, produces, updates and directs safety, health or environmental training programs based on operational and organizational needs and objectives.
- Creates and drives in conjunction with management an effective safety culture.
- Provides leadership in developing and implementing an effective Safety Management Program, including education, training, risk reduction and auditing practices.
- Plans, develops and implements with management policies & practices designed to improve safety awareness and compliance.
- Primary contact for all governmental agencies – OSHA, MSHA, and Tier II, for site visits, reporting, audits, and all other matter pertaining to meeting compliance requests.
- Reduces near misses, accidents and other unsafe incidents by developing and implementing an effective Safety Loss Prevention program based on current processes and planned modifications.
- Performs regular Safety, Loss Prevention, and training audits and enforces safety regulations. Makes recommendations to correct or eliminate hazards.
- Ensures thorough investigations of accidents and/or safety, health or environmental employee complaints are conducted and proper courses of action are taken to resolve.
- Develops and revises departmental safety and health SOP’s for continuous improvement.
- Maintains records necessary for the preparation and distribution of accurate and timely reports. Collects, analyzes and disseminates safety, health and/or environmental data to supervisors, managers and/or employees.
- Identifies all OSHA, MSHA and EPA at risk conditions to plant management in order to abate.
- Strives to continuously build knowledge and skills. Stays current with developments within the safety and loss prevention field and shares expertise with others. Ensures compliance with all local, state and federal safety standards.
- Exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others, and works to maintain constructive working relationships.
- A commitment to company wide health and safety is required.
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk, sit, stand, and use repetitive hand motions.
- Must be able to twist, bend, stoop, reach overhead, climb, balance, and kneel.
- Ability to walk extensively throughout manufacturing plants and company property to perform site assessments.
- Ability to lift objects and perform normal range of motion functions for general physical tasks related to instructional training and demonstrations.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferred.
- Three years’ relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Certifications preferred: First Aid, CPR, OSHA.
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
This position does require travel between the North Carolina and Georgia locations.
