Description

The Rook I Site Summer Student Program is an opportunity to make an impact and build your skill set while gaining valuable experience.

The position is based out of the Rook I Site, which is located approximately 155 km north of La Loche. The Rook I Site Summer Student Coordinator will work a two-weeks on, two-weeks off rotational schedule, and will stay at the Rook I camp during their time on site.

During the Program, the Rook I Site Summer Student Coordinator will have the opportunity to gain real-world work experience in a mineral exploration and project development camp and strengthen leadership skills by offering supervisory support to students participating in the Rook I Site Summer Student Program. The Rook I Site Summer Student Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the onboarding, scheduling, reporting, and daily support of Summer Students working a rotational schedule at the Rook I site throughout the summer.

This role ensures that all student placements are aligned with operational needs, and supports a positive learning experience for the (8) Site Summer Students. The Rook I Site Summer Student Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for Summer Students, Rook I Site leadership, and NexGen staff for the duration of the Program, facilitating clear communication and smooth operations throughout the summer work term.

Key Responsibilities

- Act as the primary mentor and guide for Summer Students, providing leadership and support to ensure a positive work experience for all participants.

- Work alongside Summer Students in various departments as noted above, setting an example of professionalism and dedication.

- Assist in the overall execution of the Program, including coordination of schedules, overseeing task assignments, and ensuring adherence to safety and operational protocols.

- Monitor and enforce safety standards among Summer Students, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and protocols.

- Conduct company vehicle ‘circle-checks’ and complete the necessary inspection documentation, as well as basic vehicle maintenance.

- Provide regular feedback to Summer Students, contributing to their learning and development. Participate in the evaluation process to assess the effectiveness of the Program and the performance of the students.

- Act as a point of contact for any issues or concerns that Summer Students might have, offering solutions and support as needed; flag important issues with NexGen management as appropriate.

- Facilitate communication between the students, program administrators, and department heads.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

The Summer Student Coordinator is open to applicants who:

- Are from the Local Priority Area (LPA)*.

- Have a high school diploma.

- Are currently enrolled in Year 3 or 4 of an accredited post-secondary program in the Fall of 2026, of which proof of enrollment and intent to return may be required.

- Have demonstrated leadership qualities, and are mature, self-reliant, and eager to learn to new skills.

*LPA communities include Descharme Lake, La Loche, Clearwater River Dene Nation, Bear Creek, Garson Lake, Black Point, Turnor Lake, Birch Narrows Dene Nation, Buffalo Narrows, Buffalo River Dene Nation, Dillon, St. George’s Hill, and Michel Village.
