The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of collection vehicles to provide solid waste, recycling, and yard waste services. This role offers consistent work, local routes, and the opportunity to build a long-term career with an industry leader.
- Safely operate collection vehicles (automatic and standard transmission) on assigned routes; routes may vary based on operational needs.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required safety and route documentation.
- Communicate mechanical issues, accidents, or incidents immediately to supervisors and maintenance teams.
- Follow all company, local, state/provincial, and federal safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle interior and exterior.
- Provide professional, courteous service to customers and the public.
- Ensure proper use of required PPE at all times.
- Manage assigned Helper(s), when applicable.
- Perform special pick-ups and assist with route changes as needed.
- Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and ongoing development opportunities.
- Assist with training and mentoring other drivers.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Minimum of one (1) year of commercial driving experience or completion of an accredited CDL training program.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to meet safety-sensitive job requirements.
- Strong commitment to safety, reliability, and customer service.
- Knowledge of commercial vehicles and safe operating procedures.
- Ability to maneuver vehicles in tight spaces and back distances of 120 feet or more.
- Ability to recognize unacceptable or hazardous waste.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to read and understand route sheets, maps, and safety documentation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively using proper techniques.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing routes and schedules.
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, traffic, and mechanical equipment.
- Sitting up to 75% of the day due to driving responsibilities.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, climb, and lift as required.
