Position Overview: The Radiographer Trainee is an entry-level role designed to develop a new employee to Radiographic NDT Level I capabilities in a foundry/industrial environment. The trainee learns to safely support and perform film radiography using both X-ray equipment and gamma sources (Ir-192 / Co-60) under direct supervision, with heavy emphasis on radiation safety, technique-card discipline, film handling/processing, and documentation/traceability.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Complete structured training to Level I readiness, including: - Radiation safety and site rules (gamma + X-ray)
- Radiographic fundamentals (time/distance/shielding, inverse square concept, geometry)
- Film systems and artifacts (handling, storage, intensifying screens, fog control)
- Film processing and density control (developer/fixer temps, times, replenishment, drying)
- Technique-card use and documentation discipline
- Maintain OJT log with sign-offs by qualified personnel.
Required
- None (entry-level), but must demonstrate reliability and safety mindset.
- Manufacturing/foundry experience, quality/inspection exposure, or work in regulated/procedural environments.
- Any prior NDT awareness or film handling experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or higher preferred
- Previous or current SNT-TC-1A Level I certification and IRRSP certification
- Must be able to provide previous exposure records upon request
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Employment eligibility requires U.S. person status under ITAR regulations, including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or other protected individuals due to export control requirements.
- Must have the ability to stand and walk on concrete floors and uneven surfaces for the duration the work shift
- Must have the ability to lift and carry 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds continuously
- Must be able to twist, stoop, bend, and stand in the performance of job duties
- Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Must be capable of passing a near vision (Jaeger 1) eye exam with corrected or uncorrected vision and a brightness discrimination exam
- Must physically able to work in a restricted radiation area
Pay Range: $26.44 - $30.43 an hour
