JOB OVERVIEW

LEP is seeking dynamic talent to join our team in the role of Radiation Protection Technician II for an outage in New Brunswick. The ideal candidate would have 1-3 years’ experience working in the nuclear industry with a Green Badge qualification.

This exciting job offers the opportunity to earn a highly competitive wage. The support for this outage will be managed on two shifts, where hours worked beyond 40 in a week will be paid at premium rates. There will be a one-time payment to cover travel expenses, and a per diem allowance for meals and lodging. Applicants will be responsible for their own lodging and transportation arrangements. Successful applicants will be represented by the Power Workers’ Union.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Working in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations:

- Lead/participate in pre-job briefings and post-job debriefings on radiological and conventional safety aspects.

- Provide radiation protection services to internal and external staff who are not qualified to provide self-protection.

- Review hazards and conduct surveys to confirm hazard levels to ensure that all radiation protection conditions and materials being processed are within Radiation Exposure Permit (REP) limits.

- Respond to Personnel Contamination Events (PCEs).

- Conduct routine radiation surveys, document findings based on regulatory requirements of the radiation safety program and operational updated surveys based on site requirements and procedures.

- Perform sorting and segregation of low-level nuclear and non-nuclear by-products to reduce the overall volume of material utilizing strict procedural adherence. This role is physically demanding.

- Evaluate survey results and identify areas where hazard controls need to be adjusted, or additional radiation protection measures are required.

- Ensure proper radiation and contamination controls are in place. Complete post-job requirements, including housekeeping and all documentation and reporting requirements.

- Observe work, coach personnel, and ensure workers appropriately use radiation protection equipment and techniques as per Radiation Protection Procedures, work instructions and policies.

- Accountable for the health, safety and well-being of self and others in accordance with technical/operating procedures and standards.

- Other duties as required.


EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

- High School Diploma (or equivalent)

- Specialized Training/Experience in Radiation Protection (or equivalent)

- Green Badge Qualification Required.

- Must have valid site security clearance or the ability to obtain it.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

We are seeking dynamic and results-driven professionals who have the following:

- 1-3 years’ experience working in a nuclear setting.

- Physical ability to routinely lift/carry up to 50 lbs.

- Ability to work shifts.

- Ability to successfully complete and maintain a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) designation.

- Eligible to work in Canada.
