Project Manager-Structural/Geotechnical Engineer

GEI has an immediate opening for a Structural Engineer VI with experience in the design and construction of dams, levees, and other hydraulic structures to support the Denver office’s Dams and Water Resources practice. The successful candidate will bring energy, enthusiasm, and a focus on collaboration while providing technical, quality, and safety leadership on projects and pursuits.

The Structural Engineer VI will lead and direct structural work within an interdisciplinary team that includes civil, geotechnical, hydrologic, and hydraulic engineers to develop designs for water supply, flood control, storage, and hydroelectric projects.

Structural Engineer VI will lead team in production of engineering analyses, reports, construction drawings, specifications, and other deliverables. Individual will be responsible for development and approval of design methodologies, technical review, and design standard conformance.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

- Assist in regional capture strategy for structural and geostructural support opportunities.

- Candidates will act as project manager and design lead, responsible for developing plans, sections, details, and calculations conforming to GEI standards.

- Support evaluation and design efforts for concrete and steel hydraulic structures (outlet works, spillways, concrete dams), structural steel, reinforced concrete, dams, excavation support systems, foundations, and other above and below grade structures.

- Assist with feasibility studies and other technical analysis to evaluate various construction methods, foundation options, excavation support systems, etc.

- Perform and review complex calculations in compliance with applicable building codes and standards, and specifications.

- Coordinate project submittals and facilitate regulatory agency approvals.

- Manage and mentor junior staff.

- Compile, write and prepare reports that summarize data and design in a technically sound, clear and concise manner.

- Perform related administrative tasks including documentation of project activities, office administration, expense reports, purchase orders, invoicing support, etc.

- Direct use of structural and geotechnical software to perform various analyses ranging from limit-state-equilibrium analyses to two- and three-dimensional finite element analyses.

Minimum Qualifications

- Degree in Structural, Geotechnical, or Civil Engineering.

- 15+ years of related experience. Significant hydraulic structures experience a plus.

- Professional Engineer certification required.

- 10+ years experience using Revit and/or CAD and ability to direct completion of project documents.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Familiarity with analysis and design software (SAP2000, STAAD, Risa, Tekla Tedds, etc.). Experience with Lusas and LS-Dyna is a plus.

- A strong proficiency in the development and use of advanced FEA methods and software for the analysis of various types of structures subjected to extreme loads.

- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-office team environment and meet deadlines.

- Ability to travel as needed.

- Possess a valid driver’s license.
