JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Project Engineer I is responsible for managing projects from the design stage, all the way through production approval. Including tooling, fixtures, gauging, production routings, schedules, dimensional approval, costs, profitability, and customer contact / correspondence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Comply with all safety and health guidelines, quality standard practices/procedures and housekeeping standards.
- Prioritize customer satisfaction, timeliness, and quality.
- Develops and facilitates basic part number projects including project management, creating work instructions for the manufacturing floor, customer support and sales support. Will work with tooling and other departments by utilizing UniGraphics and SolidCast software to design parts for the casting process.
- Supports basic quality responsibilities for new part projects ensuring Signicast QMS requirements are met. This would include APQP, first article and part approval.
- Under guidance of senior engineers, develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods through new part sampling, manufacturing feedback, and customer feedback.
- Participate in foundry related process improvement projects.
- Investigate and correct part number scrap/defect related issues.
- Acquire the basic investment casting knowledge including the following: Dip/Dewax constraints, tooling design, melt limitations and alloy concerns and basic understanding of heat treatments.
- Participating team member with the plant management team on the operational review meetings with the executive team.
- Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods.
- Under guidance of APQP team, determine the process steps, tooling and gauging, the materials and supplies to be used for efficient and cost-effective manufacturing.
- Manages part number projects to project engineering metrics.
- Establishes customer and internal engineering changes (ECNs), processes and incorporates the changes, and ensures changes become effective.
- Establishes the processes and routings to handle discrepant material, returned products (RMAs), and internal jobs to be reworked.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Requires a bachelor's degree in technical engineering field from a four-year college or university and up to 3 years’ experience; and or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience with CAD preferred.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Must be able to effectively communicate internally with other employees to share information, solves problems, and instructs manufacturing or supporting departments. Must also be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to customers and/or suppliers and act as the Primary technical contact. Must have the ability to read and interpret complex documents such as blueprints, shop orders, work plans, and customer specifications. Must be able to write standard reports and documentation.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Requires the ability to operate various equipment to include various precision measuring devices and lifting devices. Requires a broad knowledge of tooling, material characteristics, and general manufacturing and machining practices. Should be knowledgeable and/or familiar with applicable ISO/IATF/AS and quality system requirements and policies. Become knowledgeable of 3D solid modeling (SolidCast) and NX (UniGraphics). Learn and understand GD&T principles and continuous flow manufacturing principles. Proficient with MS Office Suite products.
