TerraPower, LLC is seeking a highly motivated Fuel Fabrication Engineer to support the development efforts of the Fuel Fabrication Supply and Testing team. This role will work as part of a high functioning team of engineers focused on process development for nuclear fuel fabrication for sodium cooled fast reactors. You will be responsible for a wide range of process development, supplier oversight, and technical troubleshooting and optimization.
- Work within a interdisciplinary team to perform a wide range of laboratory-based fuel research and development activities to support the Natrium reactor program
- Develop, execute, document, and communicate work plans for a team of engineers and report on status for the development of metallic fuel fabrication
- Collaborate across teams to identify root causes of technical issues related to fuel development, fabrication technology, and fuel sample analysis
- Apply quantitative and statistical techniques to assess experimental outcomes and support data-driven conclusions, and recommend path forward with Design of Experiment (DOE) in mind
- Provide oversight and coordination with vendors for complex partnerships and procurements
- Design, fabrication, and operate custom laboratory experiments
- Safely handle radiological material in accordance with company processes and WA state law
- 10 years of experience plus a B.S. degree; or an advanced degree with equivalent experience
- A degree in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or a related technical discipline is required
- Experience with metallic fuel is highly desired. A background in Materials Engineering and/or associated skills is preferred if no direct metallic fuel experience
- Lab management experience (e.g., maintaining spaces and/or equipment and training users) is preferred but not required
- Experience with relevant analytical techniques is preferred (ie ICP-MS, SEM/EBSD, C/N/O analyzers)
- Experience with radioactive material handling in a laboratory environment is a plus
- Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
- The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork

- We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individual’s qualifications experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
