About the role:

The Principal Advisor – Human Rights (Technical Lead) is a senior technical expert responsible for leading and supporting the global implementation of the company’s Human Rights Policy, due diligence processes, and related programs. This position plays a critical role in embedding human rights across the business by driving strategic initiatives, developing cross-functional governance frameworks, and ensuring compliance with both voluntary and mandatory reporting requirements—including modern slavery legislation.

The position reports to the Global Director of Social Performance and Human Rights and can be performed remotely, with regular collaboration across regions and travel to operational sites and partner locations.


Key Responsibilities:


Human Rights Strategy & Training

Support advancing the implementation of the company’s Human Rights Policy and Standard across business units, integrating human rights into key functions such as exploration, operations, procurement, and legacy management.
Monitor global policy and legislative developments related to human rights and provide strategic advice on potential impacts.
Co-chairs and manages Alcoa’s Human Rights Council.
Establish and manage a Human Rights Monitoring Framework (HRMF), aligning due diligence with ESG and financial reporting timelines (e.g., SEC, EU CSRD).
Represent the company on key association committees and external forums addressing human rights issues.
Coordinate and lead the development of a global Human Rights Training Program, tailored for multiple levels of the organization—from frontline workers to senior leadership.


Field-Based Due Diligence & Risk Management

Coordinate and manage third-party human rights due diligence ensure the effective integration of findings and recommended actions into Human Rights Action Plans.
When required conduct and lead field-based human rights due diligence at company operations and throughout the value chain.
Support operational teams in establishing site-level governance and response mechanisms aligned with international standards and corporate expectations.


Modern Slavery & Regulatory Compliance

Draft and manage the company’s annual Modern Slavery Statement, ensuring alignment with jurisdictional requirements (e.g., Canada, Australia, U.S. Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act).
Support the preparation of additional human rights disclosures for the Sustainability report, ESG indices, and other external platforms.
Monitor global legislative developments in business and human rights, advising internal stakeholders on implications and required actions.


Stakeholder Engagement & Thought Leadership

Represent the company in external working groups, forums, and conferences focused on business and human rights issues.
Collaborate closely with internal teams (e.g., Supply Chain, Legal, HR, Environment) to align human rights performance with broader sustainability and operational goals.


What you can bring to this role:

Bachelors and/or Graduate degree in International Relations, Law, Sustainability, Human Rights, or a related field.
Minimum of 8 years of professional experience, with substantial practical, field-based human rights due diligence experience in the resource industry or similar industrial environments.
Strong working knowledge of international frameworks (e.g., UN Guiding Principles, OECD Guidelines, ILO Conventions).
Experience in implementing human rights programs within the resource industry or similar industrial environments.
Deep understanding of international human rights frameworks and standards.
Experience in developing and delivering human rights training programs is preferred but not required.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and present clear recommendations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and advise senior leadership.
Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence without direct authority.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience drafting official reports and disclosures.
Fluency in English is essential; additional languages (e.g., French, Portuguese) are a plus.
Willingness and ability to travel internationally on a regular basis (min. 25-30%).

Le ou la Conseiller(ère) principal(e) – Droits de la personne (Responsable technique) est un expert technique senior chargé de diriger et de soutenir la mise en œuvre mondiale de la Politique sur les droits de la personne de l’entreprise, des processus de diligence raisonnable et des programmes connexes. Ce poste joue un rôle clé dans l’intégration des droits de la personne dans l’ensemble des activités de l’entreprise, en pilotant des initiatives stratégiques, en développant des cadres de gouvernance interfonctionnels et en assurant la conformité aux exigences de déclaration volontaires et obligatoires, y compris les lois sur l’esclavage moderne.

Ce poste relève du Directeur mondial de la performance sociale et des droits de la personne, et peut être exercé à distance, avec une collaboration régulière entre les régions et des déplacements sur les sites opérationnels et chez les partenaires.


Responsabilités principales :

Stratégie et formation en droits de la personne

Soutenir la mise en œuvre de la Politique et de la Norme sur les droits de la personne dans toutes les unités d’affaires, en intégrant ces droits dans des fonctions clés (exploration, opérations, approvisionnement, gestion des passifs).
Surveiller les évolutions politiques et législatives mondiales en matière de droits de la personne et conseiller stratégiquement sur leurs impacts potentiels.
Co-présider et gérer le Conseil des droits de la personne d’Alcoa.
Établir et gérer un Cadre de suivi des droits de la personne (HRMF), aligné sur les échéances de déclaration ESG et financière (ex. : SEC, CSRD de l’UE).
Représenter l’entreprise dans des comités d’associations et forums externes traitant des droits de la personne.
Coordonner et diriger le développement d’un programme mondial de formation sur les droits de la personne, adapté à tous les niveaux de l’organisation.

Diligence raisonnable sur le terrain et gestion des risques

Coordonner et gérer les évaluations de diligence raisonnable menées par des tiers, et intégrer efficacement les résultats dans les plans d’action.
Mener des évaluations sur le terrain, au besoin, dans les opérations de l’entreprise et tout au long de la chaîne de valeur.
Soutenir les équipes opérationnelles dans la mise en place de mécanismes de gouvernance et de réponse conformes aux normes internationales.


Lutte contre l’esclavage moderne et conformité réglementaire

Rédiger et gérer la Déclaration annuelle sur l’esclavage moderne de l’entreprise, en assurant sa conformité avec les exigences des juridictions concernées (Canada, Australie, États-Unis – Loi sur la prévention du travail forcé des Ouïghours).
Contribuer à la préparation des divulgations sur les droits de la personne dans les rapports de durabilité, indices ESG et autres plateformes externes.
Surveiller les évolutions législatives mondiales en matière de droits de la personne dans les affaires, et conseiller les parties prenantes internes.


Engagement des parties prenantes et leadership éclairé

Représenter l’entreprise dans des groupes de travail, forums et conférences sur les droits de la personne.
Collaborer étroitement avec les équipes internes (chaîne d’approvisionnement, juridique, RH, environnement) pour aligner la performance en droits de la personne avec les objectifs de durabilité et opérationnels.


Profil recherché :

Diplôme universitaire en relations internationales, droit, durabilité, droits de la personne ou domaine connexe.
Minimum de 8 ans d’expérience professionnelle, dont une expérience significative sur le terrain en diligence raisonnable dans l’industrie des ressources ou un environnement industriel similaire.
Solide connaissance des cadres internationaux (Principes directeurs de l’ONU, Lignes directrices de l’OCDE, Conventions de l’OIT).
Expérience dans la mise en œuvre de programmes sur les droits de la personne dans un contexte industriel.
Bonne compréhension des normes internationales en matière de droits de la personne.
Expérience en développement et animation de formations (atout).
Excellentes capacités d’analyse et de synthèse.
Excellentes compétences en communication et en relations interpersonnelles, avec capacité à influencer les dirigeants.
Capacité démontrée à travailler en transversal et sans autorité hiérarchique directe.
Maîtrise de l’anglais (écrit et oral) essentielle ; le français ou le portugais est un atout.
Disponibilité pour des déplacements internationaux réguliers (25 à 30 % du temps).
