The Pressure Relief Valve Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, repairing, and certifying pressure relief valves, safety valves and related safety devices in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
This role ensures the safe operation of customer equipment across power generation, industrial, refinery, petrochemical, and manufacturing environments.
- Perform disassembly, cleaning, inspection, and reassembly of PRVs, safety valves, and pilot operated relief valves.
- Conduct bench testing and certification in accordance with ASME, API, NBIC, and customer-specific requirements.
- Identify wear, defects, and nonconformance; recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot valve performance issues and determine root causes. Conduct field testing and certification, including using lift assist devices.
- Complete accurate test reports, repair records, tag documentation, and certification paperwork.
- Ensure compliance with National Board VR Program, ASME Code, and company quality standards.
- Maintain calibration and traceability of test equipment and tools.
- Perform on-site (inline testing such as AVK or EVT), inspection, and repairs as required.
- Install and remove PRVs during customer outages or routine maintenance.
- Follow all company safety policies and industry safety practices.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area.
- Participate in ongoing training to maintain certifications and technical skill levels.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with industrial mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read technical drawings, manuals, and code documents.
- Proficiency with hand tools, precision measuring equipment, and test benches.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in field conditions as needed.
- Prior PRV repair experience in a certified VR shop.
- Experience with ASME Section I & VIII valves.
- Field service experience within industrial, refinery, chemical, or manufacturing environments.
Training and Certification by Crosby, Consolidated and/or Ferris.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good time management, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
· Full-time; Regular work hours are Monday-Friday 6:00am-2:30pm.
· Both scheduled and unscheduled overtime are required.
· May require weekend shifts, and field travel.
· To ensure a safe and compliant industrial work environment; employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment background check and drug screening. Ongoing participation in random drug screening program(s) is required.
