Job Summary
Join our dynamic manufacturing team as a Press Lead, Extrusion (in training), where you'll embark on an exciting journey to develop expertise in producing aluminum extrusions. This entry-level leadership role offers hands-on experience in operating and overseeing extrusion presses, ensuring quality standards are met, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. This position will be a key role in the production process, learning to lead the production team with a focus on safety, quality, production efficiency, and on-time delivery to the customer. The expectation is to actively participate in the day-to-day production process.
1. Learn all aspects of the Extrusion Work Leader Role
- Responsible for the daily leadership and accountability of the extrusion press team
- Acts as a leader and takes the lead role in day-to-day coordinating and problem solving
- Ensures the team is adhering to PPE requirements and safety protocol
- Maintains the ability to perform all press related procedures and job duties
- Sequences work orders for the shift with a focus on efficiency and on-time delivery
- Maintains an understanding of the EPICS production system for pulling die drawings and other related information
- Verifies that all Extrusion profiles meet finish requirements and dimensional requirements
- Assists and directs the press team as needed for a successful shift
- Maintains a clean and organized work area. Directs the extrusion team through their end of shift duties, ensuring the team maintains all necessary house-keeping habits.
2. Move into training under the Extrusion Press Foreman
- Leads daily capacity planning – ensuring presses are up and running and all roles are filled
- Shifts personnel to fill any unexpected absences
- Backfills any press production duty when necessary – including unplanned absences, vacation time, rest breaks, lunch breaks
- Maintains the ability to perform any production duty – Press operation, die changes, sets billet ovens, sets cutback saw, monitors extrusion quality, checks extrusions dimensionally
- Trains new employees and leads by example
- Monitors employees work schedules and tracks any time card issues – tardies and unexcused absences
- Coordinates equipment issues/failures with maintenance – takes the lead role in making sure maintenance is immediately aware of any press down situation
- Backfills the Production Manager
- Enters daily extrusion production into Epics and ensures all data is accurate
- Forecasts production and scheduling issues and creates work arounds – example: too many dies in the box that require long racks, dies in the box with no backup, dies ready without the correct billet length on hand, foreseeing shapes that will cause full table downtime
- Works closely with the Scheduler to communicate when work orders are needed, and to prioritize press teams based on customer needs
- Arrives to work on time. Makes sure work area is covered at all times.

- Can be counted on to always work overtime when necessary
- Never misses work without prior approval and appropriate notification.
