AltaGas is seeking a Plant Operator to join our REEF Terminal Operations team. Receiving direction from the Panel Control Operator and reporting directly to the Shift Supervisor, you will support commissioning and startup (CSU) as well as ready-for-operations (RFO) activities. Following startup, you will lead in-field day-to-day operations including Lock-Out/Tag-Out, operator rounds, permit issuance, security compliance, and VLGC cargo loading operations.
Your primary focus will be ensuring all work aligns with AltaGas’ Core Values: safety, collaboration, integrity, inclusion, and learning. This role requires a strong safety mindset and a hands-on, field-based leadership approach, coordinating with the Panel Control Operator, Shift Supervisor, and Senior Management while maintaining compliance with operational procedures and meeting customer expectations.
This is a full-time position based in Prince Rupert, BC. It is not camp-based. The schedule is 7 days on, 7 days off, rotating between day and night shifts.
- Champion personal safety leadership in accordance with AltaGas’ Environment, Health and Safety Program.
- Ensure compliance with AltaGas policies, standards, and procedures during all operational activities.
- Develop and execute operational procedures, lock-out/tag-out packages, and support Operational Plan development with the Panel Control Operator, Shift Supervisor, and Operations, Maintenance & Project (OMP) Coordinator.
- Train for vacation relief and overtime on the DeltaV DCS control console to support operational excellence and redundancy.
- Lead VLGC operations including pre-loading security checks, documentation, gangway operations, and marine loading arm connection/disconnection.
- Train junior employees in plant operations, VLGC procedures, and security duties.
- Uphold strict security standards.
- Liaise with external stakeholders.
- Demonstrate proficiency with UHF/VHF radios.
- Support incident reporting and investigations, including analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain facility housekeeping standards.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the training program.
- Ensure equipment is properly maintained, routine shift maintenance is completed, and additional work orders are entered in Maximo.
- Participate in Joint Occupational Health & Safety meetings.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of experience in Gas Plant or Terminal Operations- Previous experience in facility start-up and commissioning
- Control room operations experience, preferably with DeltaV is considered an asset
- 4th Class Power Engineering certification required.
- Strong passion for team training and development.
- Proficiency in Windows-based applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with EHS and PSM systems such as Maximo and Intelex is an asset.
- Strong time management and decision-making abilities.
- Exceptional organizational skills; able to work independently and collaboratively.
This position offers a base salary range of $100,000 to $120,000 annually, based on experience, education, and skills. AltaGas also provides a competitive relocation allowance and a comprehensive benefits package, including health coverage, retirement plans, and paid time off starting on day one.
