POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for leading safety programs and compliance at the Gathering and Processing facility and for the organization. This includes leading and/or assisting with development and implementation of safety programs and processes. This will also include organizing or participating on standard development teams, developing training for new programs, facilitating implementation of new standards, and verifying effective implementation in the field.

This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. The actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications. This position is a hybrid schedule running 4 days in office and 1 working remotely.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides technical support of routine operations, project work, major maintenance or construction support, and emergency response to ensure worker safety throughout the planning and execution phases of work.
Supports development, maintenance, and execution of safety programs for implementation in the field to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and conformance to MPC corporate standards.
Conducts auditing on safety programs to verify compliance and conformance with regulatory and MPC standards. This includes analyzing safety performance data to identify and report trends, along with proposing recommendations to address areas of concern.
Leads and supports investigations for near-misses, incidents, and injuries to identify root causes and recommendations to prevent future incidents. Tracks recommendations to implementation to ensure completion.
Develops and presents training material related to a variety of safety topics in collaboration with Operations and Learning Development departments.
Provides subject matter expertise for assigned programs, which may include providing input as a competent person for fall protection and excavation safety, support during Life Critical work and input on other regulatory programs.
Develops safety related communications for inclusion into shift starter meetings, safety meeting, notices, and bulletins.
Maintains sufficient professional expertise and proficiency in discipline to achieve Company expectations and perform technical assignments.
Must be able to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential and privileged information.
Must be a self-starter who communicates well with plant personnel, management, public, regulatory agencies, and customers.
Provide assistance to other facilities / areas when needed
This position has high visibility at this location. Individual must possess excellent leadership type qualities and a previous track record of safety success.
There are no direct reports for this position, however, this individual is responsible for overseeing all safety, health and security elements of the facility and its employees including construction project work.
Travel expectations: 25%

Must possess knowledge of safety metrics, root cause analysis, excavation safety, confined space entry, fall protection requirements, energy isolation, hot work, hazard communication, mobile equipment and mobile crane safety.
Must have the ability to prepare safety related reports and other types of documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
Ability to incorporate different training methods based on the audience and capability to speak in front of large groups.
Must be able to properly analyze process safety related information and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
Must be proficient in conducting onsite assessments and evaluations as they relate to safety and process safety management items.
Must be able to perform and track all site safety required trainings.
Must have excellent time and project management skills and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
Communication Skills: Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Job will require public speaking engagements and significant report writing.
Computer Skills: Must have exceptional computer skills, including knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Outlook. A working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and SharePoint systems is also required. Familiarity with safety related software management systems a plus.


REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or GED required with 2 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in HES related field with no relevant experience
Driver's license is required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Professional Level 1 (P1)

High School diploma or GED required with 2 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree in HES related field with no relevant experience


Professional Level 2 (P2)

High School diploma or GED required with 4 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with two (2) or more years of relevant experience

Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements
Ability to identify issues and work as an independent problem solver
Capable of managing conflict in the work environment
Focuses on developing business acumen and technical knowledge


Professional Level 3 (P3)

High School diploma or GED required with 6 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
Ability to manage complex projects with limited support
Mentors less experienced members of the team
Ability to identify risk and implement mitigations based on knowledge of the business


Professional Level 4 (P4)

High School diploma or GED required with 12 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with ten (10) or more years of relevant experience
Recognized Subject Matter Expert in the field of safety within the Company
Collaborates enterprise-wide to enhance safety performance
Collaborates effectively with internal business partners to proactively identify complex risk and implement strategic mitigations


Professional Level 5 (P5)

High School diploma or GED required with 15 years of relevant experience or Bachelor’s degree with fifteen (15) or more years of experience
Works autonomously in a dynamic environment within MPC and industry
Recognized Subject Matter Expert in the field of safety representing MPC in industry
Collaborates effectively with external industry groups to proactively identify complex industry risk and implement strategic mitigations
