NSB Omega is searching for a Safety Advisor for our MAJOR Utilities Client in St. John's, NL.
Assignment Description•Provide oversight, technical advice, support and direction to the Project Execution team for contract, technical and capital work;
•Provide coaching and support to Project Managers and Construction Management Representatives (CMRs) involved in the execution of work;
•Ensure the Contractor Safety Management Program is effectively implemented through front end involvement in tender specifications and bid reviews, and ongoing field monitoring;
•Act as a liaison with project managers, regional / safety field personnel and CMRs.
•Coordinate and provide coaching for incident investigations;
•Assist new staff with safety reporting and safety observations;
•Review contracts and provide feedback to contract managers;
•Review contractor site specific safety documentation / safety plans and provide feedback;
•Participate in contractor “kick off” meetings;
•Be a point of contact for regional safety in the areas we operate;
•Perform field work, safety tours and safety inspections;
•Responsible to promote and ensure compliance with The Client's Safety Management Systems;
•Facilitate project risk assessments and perform audits related to Project Execution work (Contractor Safety Management Programs and the Safety Management Systems);
•Liaison with the CMRs in the field regarding safety issues and concerns;
•Deliver in house training as required;
•Communicate with Operations on a regular basis;
•Strong knowledge of safety operating procedures and relevant OHS legislation and associated industry standards;
•Strong knowledge of capital intensive environments;
•Travel to site as required to provide technical input and field support.
•Travel and work at various sites where projects are being completed (Menihek, Churchill Falls, Muskrat Falls, Soldiers Pond, etc).
Education and Experience Required
•Safety training and / or an equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Safety and Health Management Systems
+ Auditing and incident investigations
+ Risk assessment
+ Development of corporate programs and standards;
•Minimum of 5 years experience in construction projects;
•Field experience, particularly relating to hydro-electric facilities or the electrical industry in general is considered desirable;
•Good computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office;
•Ability to work in a dynamic work environment;
•A valid driver’s license will be required as there will be some travel involved;
•Ability to perform field work in an electrical utility and heavy industrial environments.
