Operations Engineer Co-Op

seeks an Operations Engineering Co-Op at Ergon Refining, Inc. in Vicksburg, MS. The Operations Engineering Co-Op supports refinery operations by applying engineering principles to improve efficiency, reliability, and safety. This role provides hands-on experience in data analysis, process evaluation, and cross-functional collaboration within a refinery environment. The co-op will contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying operational inefficiencies, supporting process optimization initiatives, and gaining practical exposure to refinery systems and operational workflows.

- Assist with daily operational monitoring, including inventory reconciliation and production tracking

- Prepare recurring reports and dashboards for management review

- Support shift operations by analyzing data from refinery process units

- Collect, clean, and analyze data related to key performance indicators (KPIs)

- Identify trends, variances, or anomalies in production, energy usage, and maintenance data

- Utilize statistical and data visualization tools (Excel, Minitab, Power BI, etc.) to communicate findings

- Participate in or lead small continuous improvement projects (e.g., reducing downtime, optimizing inventory, improving operator workflows)

- Develop project documentation such as process flow diagrams, root cause analyses, and presentations

- Support capital projects through data collection, project planning assistance, and basic cost analysis

Qualifications

- Completion of at least two semesters in an accredited engineering program

- Industrial Engineering preferred, but other engineering disciplines considered

- Minimum 3.0 GPA required

- Ability to commit to three consecutive semesters in the co-op program

- Strong self-motivation with demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills

- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
