BUSINESS UNIT: TERMINALS
Kinder Morgan is the largest independent terminal operator in North America, providing a strong, reliable network of 144 terminals serving our customers’ storage, distribution, blending and logistical needs. Our terminals store and handle renewable fuels, petroleum products, chemicals, vegetable oils and other products. We have a combined liquids storage capacity of approximately 151 million barrels and handle about 59 million tons of dry bulk materials annually.
Primary purpose:
The Operators Coordinator works at the direction of the Director of Operations to support continuous boiler operations through equipment monitoring and boiler water analysis in addition to acting as liaison on behalf of Operations and Maintenance with Engineering and general contractors regarding construction projects within the facility. A thorough understanding of basic chemistry, intermediate mathematics, industrial mechanics and safe work practices are required to be a successful in this position.
This position requires periodic inspections of the boilers and monitoring of operations and analysis of water samples for the boilers and r to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
•Knowledge of boiler operations
•Observes pressure, temperature, and draft meters on panel to verify specified operation of automatic combustion control systems, feed water regulators and burners
•Turns valves and adjusts controls to set specified fuel feed, draft openings, water level, and steam pressure of boiler.
•Observes boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions and makes repairs, such as changing burners and tightening pipes and fittings
•Understand and comply with plant safety rules and requirements that include proper Machine Guarding Safety, Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures, Hazard Communication, Fork-Lift Safety, Personal Protection Equipment, Confined Space Entry, etc.
•Perform periodic inspections and record data as assigned per shift
•Collect samples for analysis as assigned per shift
•Make necessary adjustments to equipment to ensure proper operating procedures
•Keep accurate and legible log of daily activities every two hours
•Reviews plans, specifications and sites for construction projects with the emphasis on ensuring that the design will be acceptable to Operations and Maintenance.
•May be required to troubleshoot equipment and make repairs to PVC piping, pumps, boilers, air compressors, etc.
•Required to perform preventative maintenance on, air compressors, boilers, pumps, blowers, etc.
•Must be proficient in troubleshooting the steam system, preventative maintenance of equipment and repairs to PVC piping, pumps, boilers, air compressors, etc.
•Oversees multiple projects concurrently.
•Works with Operations and Engineering to coordinate downtime for assets in order to minimize the impact to our customers.
•Communicate the status of developmental activities to Project Managers and business sponsors using written and verbal communications
•Other duties as assigned.
Inspects the construction of tanks, piping, truck and rail racks, docks, fire water systems, etc.
Position Requirements
Minimum requirements:
Education:
•High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience / specific knowledge:
•Must successfully complete and pass forklift safety training
•5-10 years of operational knowledge of boilers, air compressors and pumps
•3-5 years of operations experience managing, overseeing or coordinating projects
Certifications, licenses, registrations:
•Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Company Insurance Carrier

•Ability to accept supervision / direction and work cooperatively with people
•Ability to function appropriately in high stress situations
Physical demands:
•Must be able to distinguish colors and have visual acuity to closely observe multiple computer monitors
•Ability to hear and orally respond to oral communications
•Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 Lbs
•Ability to walk up and down stairs/ladders
Working conditions:
•Must be able and willing to work weekends, holidays, and must work overtime as required and be reasonably available to respond to and report to work in call-in situations
•Will be required to wear PPE, steel toed shoes/boots, goggles and respirators
•Ability to withstand extreme weather conditions will be required to work outside
•Ability to negotiate uneven surfaces
