Brief Description
CAMS is looking for an
Operations & Maintenance Technician(OMT) at the Dartmouth Power facility. The OMT is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems on a continuous basis. The OMT shall respond to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions and execute plant shutdown and startup procedures as required. The OMT will ensure that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating and maintaining it in a safe, reliable and efficient manner within environmental regulations. This position will have assigned accountability for maintenance, operations, and technical functions as determined by the Operations and Maintenance Manager.
Dartmouth Power is a nominal 97 MW, natural gas and ULSD fueled facility consisting of one GE 6B gas turbine in combined cycle with an ABB VAX steam turbine and one simple cycle LM2500 located in Dartmouth, MA.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assist in the operation of a combined cycle plant. Coordinate operations with the Transmission Owner (utility) and Transmission Operator (ISO) while maintaining safe, efficient and dependable operation of the plant.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of all plant systems, plant relay tripping scheme, operating and emergency response procedures, compliance procedures, sabotage and disturbance reporting procedures and the ability to execute procedures when necessary and access the appropriate plant manuals.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of plant environmental emission parameters.
- Maintain knowledge of all NERC Reliability Standards that pertain to the operations of the plant. Specifically responding to dispatch instruction and reliability directives, responding to sabotage threats and system disturbances, plant daily availability reporting, reporting changes in real or reactive power, reporting changes in Automatic Voltage Regulator operation, performing capacity & reactive demonstration tests, reporting relay failures or mis-operations, reporting communication outages, using line identifiers when communicating with Transmission Owner and Transmission Operator, and logging all communications and actions.
- Investigate and clear all alarms by taking appropriate actions.
- Assist in plant start-up, shutdown and equipment operations as necessary, including the turbines, HRSG, and all auxiliary equipment in accordance with operating instructions and
- procedures.
- Receive and respond to electrical, steam and fuel dispatcher's orders and requests.
- Update, maintain and review required plant logs and records on a continuous basis, precisely and accurately.
- Control, monitor, record and chart plant performance and variances via computerized monitoring programs and other plant instrumentation.
- Report upset conditions or other anomalies in plant status to the manager in a timely manner.
- Identify and diagnose process problems and adjust/correct within skill capabilities.
- Monitor and test water chemistry per written guidelines to maintain proper steam quality and boiler chemistry.
- Assist in the training of new OMTs as required with plant processes.
- Successfully complete company sponsored training courses and any training and qualification/certification programs as required.
- Ensure plant and equipment is maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
- Safely operate plant equipment including trucks, cranes, forklifts and direct unloading of off-hour deliveries.
- Monitor plant security utilizing systems provided.
- Ensure accuracy of submitted defective equipment reports.
- Ensure all personnel within the plant adhere to safety guidelines.
- Ensure proper "Lock-out/Tag-out" procedures are followed. Monitor status.
- Support maintenance and operations activities as required, including assisting in the testing and maintenance of systems and equipment.
- Make use of the plant preventive maintenance program by processing and completing work orders to ensure the upkeep and continued good performance of all plant equipment.
- Will involve occasional work with OSHA classified hazardous materials.
- May be required to work overtime in the form of additional hours per day and additional days per week as dictated by plant operations - including but not limited to call-in’s; vacations; outages (forced & scheduled)
- Massachusetts 2nd Class Fireman License is required.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in operations and maintenance of major power plant equipment.
- Experience with digital control systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel and Word.
- Due to the vast knowledge of plant equipment and administration required, the incumbent's background should include extensive utility or heavy industry power plant operating and maintenance experience.
- Strong operational, electrical/mechanical maintenance skills.
- Proficiency with personal computers, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrated experience indicating effective communication skills, analytic ability, detail orientation, and ability to make decisions and meet deadlines.
- Driving on company business is a requirement of this position and as such, the incumbent shall have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Performs repetitive and non-repetitive physical duties. Requiring lifts, pushing, pulling, stretching, bending, climbing, working in awkward positions, and lifting to 50 lbs.
Summary
Applicants must possess a
valid driver's licenseand maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
