Department: Electric Services – Dual Role (Test DepartmentOperations) Location: Serves Caldwell, Watauga, AsheAlleghany Districts
Are you ready to put your technical skills to work in a role that directly impacts our members and our communities? We're looking for an OperationsMaintenance Technician who thrives on problem-solving, enjoys working outdoors, and is committed to delivering exceptional customer service.
In this role, you'll support both our Test Department and Operations Team, handling everything from meter installations to right-of-way programs. You'll be the person our members can count on to keep their lights on and their service running smoothly-while ensuring safety, accuracy, and efficiency in everything you do.
As an O&M Technician, your day may include:
- Delivering outstanding customer service with a personal touch.
- Connecting, disconnecting, and exchanging electric meters.
- Installing and troubleshooting load control devices and AMI metering equipment.
- Performing inspections on poles, lines, and substations.
- Investigating service concerns such as high usage, voltage issues, or safety hazards.
- Supporting outage response by patrolling lines, fusing, tripping breakers, and assisting line technicians from the ground.
- Managing vegetation and right-of-way contractors to ensure safe, reliable service.
- Maintaining accurate system records and ensuring equipment, tools, and vehicles are in safe working order.
We need someone who is highly motivated, safety-focused, and a strong communicator. The ideal candidate will bring:
- Education: High school diploma (or equivalent) required. Arborist and Utility Arborist Specialist certifications required. NC Pesticide license and Drone license preferred.
- Experience: At least 2 years of electric utility experience in distribution operations and 3 years of technical application in distribution/transmission systems.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of electric utility operations and safety practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot, inspect, and repair equipment with precision.
- Competence with computers for record-keeping and reporting.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Standard hours: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday–Friday
- Flexibility required: May work alternate shifts or compressed schedules as needed such as four, ten hour days a week.
- Must hold a valid driver's license with a safe driving record. Forklift certification required.
- Regular use of company vehicles.
