Assist in conducting safety inspections of facilities to detect existing or potential accident or health hazards and determination follow up measures. Participate in accident and incident investigations to identify root cause and corrective actions. Help maintain chemical inventory and SDS system. Create safety reports and training materials. Participate in monthly safety meetings for operations employees. Create Job Hazard Analysis for new processes, equipment, and contractor work. Develop a working knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations. Assist in tracking monthly safety performance metrics and report on outcomes. Help develop or revise safety procedures and policies. Assist in researching safety requirements for new processes or equipment. Assist in providing first aid and transport for employees if medical care is needed. Coordinate meetings and maintain schedules. Provide support to the safety manager by actively participating in special projects and assignments.
Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in safety management or related field and completion of 2 years of college coursework preferred. Experience in a manufacturing environment a plus. Must have proficient skills in the use of personal computers including Windows Office applications. Highly motivated, personable, flexible, and eager to enhance knowledge and skills through on-going education and development. Must have the ability to multi-task and focus on work with details. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Must be able to work independently, as well as in project team environment. Ability to use a variety of office equipment properly for routine tasks on an as needed basis, including fax machines, copy machines, email, and central calendar systems.
Must be able to work a minimum of 8 hours per day on a regular basis. May require additional hours of work, as required. Requires full range of body motion to include: lifting, bending, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, stooping, and squatting.
Time is divided between an indoor office environment and the manufacturing area of the facility. The office environment is typically temperature controlled and clean, with normal air contaminants, such as dust, typically found in an office environment. The manufacturing environment has regular exposure to loud and prolonged noise. Regular exposure to hot temperatures of 70º F to 110º F in the summer due to the combination of the actual outside temperature and heat from the processes inside the facility. Employees are also exposed to cold temperatures, which is dependent on the actual outside temperature. While in the manufacturing area, employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include noise/hearing protection, safety glasses with side shields and steel toed work shoes.
