Job Summary
This is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is complex and varied.
This job posting is for a Mechanical Engineer within Plant Operations Support Engineering (OSE) - Mechanical Systems Engineering team. The Mechanical System Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring high reliability of assigned plant mechanical systems through effective testing, maintenance, and long-range planning consistent with station goals.
Nuclear Engineer II
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- A Master 's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
- 2-4 years of engineering experience.
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer.
- Experience in the utility industry.
- Skilled in mechanical engineering theories and principles.
- Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
- Experience in the mechanical engineering areas, such as pumps, valves, chillers, compressors, heat exchangers, diesels, strainers.
- Ability to interact with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Proficient in principles of project management.
- Nuclear Plant unescorted access
- Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition
- This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
Working Conditions- Typical office environment
Some plant observation work and occasional (<5%) travel- Occasional weekend/overtime support

- Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to Oconee Nuclear Station
