About This Job

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Field Garage Technician to perform maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on company vehicles and heavy equipment in both shop and remote field environments. This role requires strong technical expertise, independence, and the ability to work in all weather conditions while delivering exceptional customer service. We offer a competitive salary, benefit package, and per diem paid where applicable. We prefer your home base to be in the Boise/Twin Fallas area. Applicant must pass a pre-employment drug screen test.


Key Responsibilities

· Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, major overhauls, and general repairs on gasoline and diesel engines, advanced hydraulic systems, electrical systems, pneumatic systems, and heavy-duty equipment.

· Maintain, repair, and oversee company vehicles in outlying areas, including emergency breakdown response and field-based preventive maintenance.

· Ensure all company vehicles remain compliant with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, including documentation and inspections.

· Schedule, create, and review work orders; manage workflow; and approve vendor work and charges.

· Maintain service truck parts inventory, tools, and supplies while ensuring a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

· Diagnose and repair a wide range of vehicle makes and models, including aerial lifts, cranes, and other utility equipment.

· Weld, fabricate, and perform equipment modifications as needed.

· Provide professional communication with customers, explaining diagnoses, repairs, and maintenance recommendations.

· Perform remote field repairs independently without on-site supervision and manage high workloads in stressful situations.

· Work collaboratively in a shop environment when required.

· Maintain regular and punctual attendance and perform additional duties as assigned.


Working Conditions

· Work is performed independently in remote, unsupervised locations.

· Must be able to work in all environments, including adverse weather conditions.

· Requires flexibility to work alternate hours, swing shifts, weekends, and respond to emergency callouts outside normal business hours.

· Frequent out-of-town travel may be required, including overnight stays.

· Must be a self-starter with strong motivation and the ability to manage responsibilities independently.


Minimum Requirements


Education

· High school diploma or GED; AND

· Completion of a vocational program in Diesel or Automotive Technology; OR


· Equivalent industry experience.


Experience

· Minimum 5 years of heavy-duty mechanic experience, with strong emphasis on field repair and hydraulics.

· Extensive experience with utility equipment, automotive systems, heavy equipment, and truck repair.


Licenses & Certifications

· Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

· DOT medical card (or ability to obtain prior to hire).

· Willingness to obtain Tanker Certification on CDL

· Class A CDL per FMCSA 49 CFR Part 383 (or ability to obtain within 120 days of hire).

o Fluid Power Certification


o Section 609 A/C Certification


Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


Technical Knowledge

· Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

· Experience using diagnostic tools, high-voltage testing equipment, scan tools, and troubleshooting software.

· Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and equipment manuals.

· Skilled in welding, fabrication, gas/diesel engine repair, DOT inspections, and OSHA/ANSI/DOT compliance standards.


Skills


· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

· Ability to use Microsoft applications, time-entry software, fleet maintenance systems, and inventory management tools.

· Basic business background preferred. Experience with Outlook, Word, and Excel.


· Able to maintain detailed record keeping/reports.

· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.


· Effective problem-solving and analytical abilities.


Abilities

· Perform complex mechanical diagnostics and repairs safely and efficiently.

· Work independently in remote locations without supervision.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, including the service truck.

· Manage stress, workload, and shifting priorities effectively.


Tools

· Must provide and maintain a personal toolbox and a moderate set of hand tools suitable for shop and service truck use.

· Additional safety training (including lockout/tagout) may be required.


Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
