Position Overview: The Melter is responsible for melting and process all grades of steel in the arc furnace, as well as processing of steel in the AOD to customers specifications and keep furnace refractory in proper condition to produce product within strict quality standards with safety being top priority.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Operate the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) in accordance with safety and production standards.

- Operate the Argon Oxygen Decarburization (AOD) vessel under supervision and guidance.

- Collect and analyze chemistry samples to monitor metal composition during the melting process.

- Assess final chemistry results, determine compliance with required specifications, and communicate pour approval or halt production as necessary.

- Accurately complete all required documentation and production records.

- Maintain furnace refractory by removing worn materials using a jackhammer and installing new refractory as needed.

- Perform slag removal from furnaces and AOD vessels to ensure optimal operation.

- Add specified alloys to furnaces to achieve target chemistries as directed by Metallurgical instructions.

- Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with housekeeping and safety standards.

- Notify supervisor of any maintenance needs or equipment concerns.

- Suggest process improvements to enhance safety, efficiency, or quality.

- Participate in special projects, initiatives, and continuous improvement programs aligned with Vulcan Metals' safety, quality, and productivity objectives.

- Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.


Experience:

- Prior experience working in an industrial, manufacturing, or foundry environment

- Basic understanding of safety protocols when working around high temperatures and heavy equipment

- Willingness to learn melting processes, furnace operation, and metal handling procedures

- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, including standard operating procedures and safety guidelines

- Comfortable working in hot, physically demanding environments with exposure to molten metal

- Mechanical aptitude or previous hands-on work with tools, machines, or heavy equipment is a plus


Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent required; prior experience in a related field is a plus

- Must have ability to make independent and timely decisions based on the operating procedures and the product specifications provided impacting production

- Employment eligibility requires U.S. person status under ITAR regulations, including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or other protected individuals due to export control requirements.


Physical Requirements:

- Must be able to use arms, hands, legs and feet in repetitive motions

- Able to twist, stoop bend, and stand in the performance of job duties

- Must be able to lift 55 pounds repetitively

- Must be able to lift 85 pounds occasionally

- Must be able to stand and walk on concrete floors and uneven surfaces for the duration of the work shift

- Must have good vision and depth perception

- Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment

Pay Range: $23.31 - $30.43 an hour (depending on experience)

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (Must be flexible for OT if needed)
