Managing Director / Platform President – Large Animal Specialty & Emergency Veterinary Network
A private equity-backed veterinary healthcare platform is seeking an experienced veterinary executive to lead the buildout, acquisition, and operational oversight of a national network of large animal specialty and emergency hospitals. The Managing Director / Platform President will be responsible for identifying acquisition opportunities, developing new greenfield hospital locations, integrating acquired practices, and building a scalable multi-site veterinary platform. The platform is expected to scale to 7–10 facilities ranging from $15M–$50M in revenue per location, with 10,000+ square foot specialty hospital footprints, targeting $250M+ revenue growth over the next several years. This role requires a licensed veterinarian with meaningful operational leadership experience and direct involvement in veterinary practice M&A, de novo site development, and multi-location hospital management.
- Identify and evaluate acquisition targets including specialty and emergency large animal hospitals across strategic markets
- Lead sourcing, diligence, and integration of veterinary practice acquisitions in partnership with private equity investment teams
- Develop greenfield opportunities, including market selection, site development, hospital design, and launch planning
- Build a scalable regional and national veterinary hospital platform through acquisitions and organic development
- Oversee day-to-day operations across a growing network of specialty veterinary hospitals
- Recruit, develop, and retain clinical leadership including veterinary specialists and hospital administrators
- Establish operational standards across hospitals including clinical quality, patient care protocols, staffing models, and financial performance metrics
- Partner with hospital leadership to drive growth, profitability, and service expansion
- Lead post-acquisition integration including operational alignment, systems implementation, and cultural integration
- Standardize infrastructure including clinical protocols, technology systems, purchasing programs, and reporting frameworks
- Develop scalable operational playbooks to support continued expansion of the platform
- Manage P&L performance across multiple hospitals and support annual budgeting and strategic planning
- Partner with private equity sponsors to execute long-term growth strategy and value creation initiatives
- Monitor financial performance, operational KPIs, and growth metrics across the network
- Build relationships with veterinary specialists, referral networks, and industry partners
- Represent the platform within the veterinary specialty and emergency medicine community
- Help shape the long-term strategic vision for the platform’s national expansion
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) required
- Active veterinary license in good standing
- 10+ years of veterinary clinical and operational leadership experience- Demonstrated experience participating in veterinary practice acquisitions or de novo hospital development
- Experience managing multi-site veterinary hospitals or specialty veterinary practices
- Strong financial and operational acumen, including familiarity with hospital P&L management
- Experience working with private equity, corporate veterinary groups, or multi-location veterinary platforms strongly preferred
- Proven ability to recruit and lead veterinary specialists and hospital leadership teams
The ideal candidate combines clinical credibility as a veterinarian with executive-level operational leadership and M&A experience. They will have a deep understanding of specialty veterinary hospital operations, referral networks, and the economics of veterinary practice management, along with the ability to scale a high-quality clinical platform across multiple locations.
