Manager, Safety

Coordinate the activities of the CalEnergy Imperial Valley safety department in order to develop and implement all site safety and health programs, and provide safety support across BHE Renewables, as needed. Primary duties include organizing and assuring completion of safety and health activities by safety department staff, leading safety meetings, managing safety records, conducting safety inspections and managing workers compensation processes. Lead safety department activities and implement programs as directed by the plant general manager and the director of safety and training.

- Coordinate activities of the CalEnergy Imperial Valley safety department. Issue and assure the completion of assignments by safety department staff.

- Provide support to operations as needed. Performance of these tasks requires tact and diplomacy for coordinating professional safety staff, resources to identify regulatory requirements and policies to apply to our safety and health programs, consciousness to maintain orderly documentation, and adaptiveness to balance the directives of multiple executives.

- Lead safety meetings for CalEnergy Imperial Valley. Facilitate and organize the safety committee.

- Represent the safety department on senior management and operational meetings. Represent the safety department for third-party interactions.

- Typical tasks include organization of meetings, presentations, and networking with stakeholders such as skilled workforce, management and executives, subject matter experts, contract vendors and regulatory agencies

- Manage safety and health programs. Coordinate the department safety staff and participate in activities to fully implement all safety and health programs. Coordinate with and assist training staff to ensure that required safety training is developed and delivered.

- Manage compliance with safety records, equipment and inspection requirements.

- Coordinate the department safety staff and participate in activities to; maintain safety records that demonstrate compliance with written programs; maintain, calibrate and document the upkeep safety equipment such as industrial hygiene devices; and ensure that that routine periodic inspections of assets such as facility first aid kits, AEDs, etc. are performed.

- Bachelor's degree in safety, business-related studies or equivalent related work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

- Six years experience in the administration of health/safety programs preferred.

- Leadership skills to provide instruction, orientation, guidance and direction.

- Communication skills to transmit information accurately and understandably in written and verbal format and communicate effectively in group settings.

- Short-term project management planning skills to plan work flow, coordinate projects and resolve conflicting demands.

- Administrative skills to follow company standards and policies. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Interpretation skills to determine compliance with new and existing safety regulations. Certificate in safety is desired.

- A valid United States driver’s license is required.

- First Aid/CPR certification is required. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
