POSITION DESCRIPTION – MANAGER, HEALTH & SAFETY

The Manager, Health and Safety is responsible for providing leadership to teams focused on the management of all health, hygiene and safety related initiatives. The manager engages broadly across the business and is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company’s health and safety programs. This role will provide strategic leadership and technical expertise to promote a positive health and safety culture which will contribute to our vision of Going Home Healthy and Safe Every Day.
- Working with the Corporate and regional health and safety teams, influences the development of global health and safety strategies, policies, and standards.
- Oversees the implementation of health and safety programs with corporate objectives, sustainability goals, and industry best practices.
- Provides guidance and coaching to regional and site-level health and safety teams.
- Supports with the identification, assessment, and mitigation of health and safety risks associated with mining operations, exploration and projects.
- Conducts regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments, and influences operations, exploration and projects to address health and safety gaps.
- Leads incident investigations, supports establishing corrective actions plans, and oversees implementation of those plans.
- Oversees compliance with applicable health and safety regulations and standards in the regions of operation, including both exploration and projects sites.
- Monitors changes in legislation and ensures timely updates to policies and procedures.
- Designs and delivers health and safety training and competency programs for employees and contractors in alignment with the corporate strategy.
- Fosters a culture of continuous learning and health and safety awareness.
- Establishes key performance indicators (KPIs) for health and safety and tracks progress.
- Prepares regular reports for senior management and the board on health and safety performance.
- Analyzes trends and recommends improvements to enhance safety outcomes.
- Develops and maintains corporate emergency response plans and procedures.
- Oversees the development of operating sites, exploration and projects emergency response plans.
- Provides leadership during crisis situations, ensuring effective communication and coordination.
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, contractors, communities, and industry groups, to promote health and safety initiatives.

- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in health and safety management, with at least 5 years in the mining or heavy industrial sector.
- In-depth knowledge of international health and safety standards (e.g., ISO 45001, OHSAS 18001) and mining industry regulations.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing health and safety programs in a global, multicultural environment.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
- Travel commitment 25- 30%.
The salary range for this position is $134,400 to $184,800. The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies, taking into consideration internal equity. Qualified candidates with the required qualifications and relevant experience can expect an offer between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. Progression toward the higher end of the range is based on higher qualifications and experience, or demonstrated performance in the role.
