Machine Shop Assistant

Summary:

In this entry-level position, the individual will assist the machine shop foreman and machinists with day-to-day tasks while learning the basics of manufacturing including how to operate machinery. Prepping equipment and workstations, assisting with shipping and receiving, cleaning workstations, unloading scrap bins and other tasks as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Promotes safety awareness and complies with all applicable safety procedures and regulations

- Maintain current knowledge of safety standards

- Provides general assistance around the shop, including administrative and technical tasks

- Assist with shop loading and work kit preparation

- Load and unload delivery trucks

- Clean and maintain equipment as directed

- Drive shop truck as needed

- Operate equipment such as the horizontal saw, cut-off saw, and disc grinder

- Utilize precision measuring instruments, including calipers, height gauges, and micrometers

- Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and organized. Perform basic preventive maintenance on equipment

- Be familiar with Company HSE policies and procedures

- Share knowledge & best practices across the company

- All other duties as assigned by management

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or GED equivalent

- Prior metal shop, machine operator experience desired

- Aptitude for mechanics

- The capacity to analyze a situation and prioritize tasks

- Strong communication skills

- Experience driving a forklift is desired

- Must have reliable transportation with a valid driver’s license

- Positive attitude, dependable

- Task-oriented and enjoys getting things done quickly and efficiently

- Must be able to lift 50lbs

- Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.

- Must be able to get along with others and be able to work in a team environment.

- Must be able to communicate in English (both written and oral) as it relates to the job.
