Overview Lead Fiber Splicer – Broadband Operations
Victoria Electric Cooperative is seeking an experienced Lead Fiber Splicer to support and maintain our outside plant (OSP) broadband fiber network. This position is responsible for fiber splicing, testing, quality assurance, and documentation across backbone and distribution networks, while serving as the primary in-house technical resource for splice-related work.
The ideal candidate has hands-on outside plant splicing experience, strong OTDR testing skills, and takes pride in producing high-quality, well-documented work that supports reliable broadband service.
- Perform fiber splicing and patching for backbone, distribution, construction, maintenance, and restoration work
- Conduct OTDR and power meter testing; verify splice quality and loss budgets
- Lead fiber restoration efforts during service outages
- Install and maintain splice cases, handholes, and fiber enclosures
- Maintain accurate splice documentation, redlines, and test records
- Serve as the primary technical escalation point for splice-related issues
- Support and mentor splicing support staff and assist field technicians as needed
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure records and as-built documentation are current
- Follow all safety rules, procedures, and work standards
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years of fiber splicing experience (OSP preferred)
- Experience performing and interpreting OTDR tests
- Ability to read splice diagrams, construction prints, and fiber maps
- Familiarity with fiber testing equipment (OTDR, power meter, light source)
- Valid Texas driver’s license; ability to obtain CDL if required
