Journeyman Electrician

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Install, repair and maintain all electrical equipment and control systems.

DUTIES:

- Install and maintain electrical equipment including motor starters, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, electric motors and chemical feed equipment.

- Install, troubleshoot, and maintain instrumentation, controls, communications, and telemetry equipment.

- Assist in installation of electric motors.

- Assist in troubleshooting and performance testing of pumps and motors.

- Install and maintain electrical circuits for automatic control valves.

- Install and maintain electrical service to buildings and related equipment.

- Perform routine preventative maintenance on electrical and control systems.

- Provide assistance as needed in emergencies.

- Participate in scheduled on call rotation within the department.

- Ability to work in confined spaces.

- Perform any and all other appropriate functions as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Trade school or technical high school graduate in electrical apprenticeship. Minimum 6 years of commercial and industrial work experience in the electrical trade. Must possess basic knowledge of SCADA systems, hydraulic systems, automatic valves, and chemical feed systems. Must have journeyman’s papers and basic computer knowledge along with valid driver’s license with good driving record.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The ability to perform a variety of physical activities, including, but not limited to climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, walking, standing and grasping are required to perform all aspects of electrical work. The ability to speak, hear, read and write is required for reading equipment manuals, and following written and verbal instructions. Visual acuity is required for performing all electrical work. Requires ability to learn a sequence of operations and steps and operational processes, ability to research and analyze routine problems or data pertaining to problems of a routine nature.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Requires the ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:

Requires exposure to outside environmental conditions such as extreme heat and cold, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, oils, etc. Proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, etc. Sometimes requires use of a respirator or other breathing apparatus.
