General Statement of Duties
Represent Swiftel Communications as a professional Internet Technician. Receive escalated trouble calls from the Internet Help Desk. Provide advanced technical support to Internet customers to resolve a variety of service issues. Assist the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Network Supervisor in the operation, maintenance and planning of the ISP network. Support the mission statement of Brookings Municipal Utilities.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
•Respond to escalated customer requests for Internet technical support via the telephone, email, or personal visit. Answer customer questions regarding Swiftel Internet products or services and operation or maintenance. Obtain information, identify and research problems and offer technical assistance.
•Direct customer requests for internet related services such as installation, relocation, product additions or changes to the appropriate department and/or supervisor to ensure the customers needs are addressed promptly.
•Assists with installation, maintenance and operation of all ISP system software.
•Perform installation, maintenance and upgrades on the ISP system hardware including but not limited to; servers, storage, virtualization, routers, switches, PC’s, etc.
•Add/Delete/Modify customer accounts using various methods and procedures.
•Identify areas for improvement and recommend new or updated policies and procedures to improve service and operations.
•Initiate self-study on products and services offered by Swiftel Communications. Read industry literature to keep abreast of current and future trends in the industry. Make recommendations on the use of these advances.
•Performs duties in a manner consistent with safe practices.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
•High school diploma or equivalent with an associate degree in networking or computer information technology and/or an acceptable combination of two years of progressive experience and education in computer technology hardware and software.
•Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in computer information system technology and related Internet systems.
•Ability to operate and maintain UNIX/Redhat and Microsoft operating systems.
•Ability to operate and maintain ISP department hardware including but not limited to; servers, storage, virtualization, routers, switches and PC’s.
•Ability to work with multi-vendor systems.
•Strong understanding of networking concepts.
•Proficiency with diagnostic tools and network troubleshooting techniques.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
•Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and the public, and to work as a supportive team member.
Language Skills
•Ability to read and comprehend simple to complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
•Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
Certification, Testing and Examination
•Possession of a valid driver’s license.
•Other such testing as deemed necessary by Brookings Municipal Utilities / Swiftel.
