Summary
This position requires a qualified candidate to take on key responsibilities in Black Iron's HSE program. The successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting and guiding the implementation of safety measures, working closely with field staff to cultivate a strong safety culture.
The role provides expertise, guidance, and support on HSE issues during various operational activities and projects. Leading incident investigations, determining root causes, and recommending preventive actions will be integral to the role. Routine field inspections of operations will also be conducted to provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Reporting to the CEO and COO, the successful candidate will be responsible for or assist with the following duties but not be limited to:
•Support and provide guidance regarding Black Iron’s HSE program
•Able to travel to field locations regularly and work directly with field staff to develop/ support a strong safety culture.
•This position would require approximately 1 week per month of travel to sites across Alberta and BC, and any other project locations as needed
•Provide expertise, guidance, and support on HSE issues during operational activities including turnarounds, projects, etc
•Lead and participate in the incident investigations and assist in determining root causes and preventative actions for incidents
•Complete routine field inspections of operations and provide feedback to the business on continuous improvement opportunities/observations.
•Responsible for all safety documentation (COR audit documents; daily PJHA’s, vehicle inspections, first aid, site inspections, etc)
•Direct/lead/participate in all project kick off meetings, HSE meetings, office and site safety meetings
•Read and understand Black Iron’s procedures, processes and best practices
•Provide expertise, guidance, and support on HSE issues during operational activities including turnarounds, pre job meetings, etc.
•Lead role in the HSE annual reporting, COR audits, safety documentation, updating WCB, WorkSafeBC
•Keep our third-party safety compliance systems up to date and accurate (ComplyWorks, Avetta, ISN)
•Participate and assist in emergency response of events
•Play a lead role in the review and follow-up of all incidents
•Be a point contact for local regulatory bodies (WCB, WorkSafe BC, AB OHS, etc.),
•Champion for the HSE systems and tools
•Provide specific guidance to the office and field teams on initiatives (eg: SWP, SDS’s, procedures, etc.)
Description of Candidate:
•A related professional designation (CRSP, CSO, NCSO, MSO or working towards one would be an asset
•Minimum five (5+) years direct related work experience in HSE within the Oil and Gas Industry.
•Experience working in upstream oil & gas operations is required.
•Advanced competency in Microsoft Office systems
•Attention to detail, ability to multi-task and strong organizational skills are essential
•Ability to work under pressure and meet timely deadlines
•Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
•Must have Supervisory training such as Leadership for Safety Excellence (MHSA) or Supervisor Leadership for Health and Safety in the workplace (ESC)
•Formal training in: Common Safety Orientation, Wildlife awareness including bear awareness, Hazard assessment and analysis, Incident investigations, Site inspections, Health and Safety Committee and representative, H2S Alive, Standard First aid with CPR
•Expertise in WCB, disability management, and modified duty programs is an asset
•Ability to work independently or in a team environment; can function well with little direction
•Positive and upbeat attitude
•Takes pride and ownership in their work
•Proactive and self-motivated
•Experience with Health & Safety in the United States would be an asset
This position will be a hybrid of work from home and at the office 1-2 times per week as well as travel to sites across Alberta and B.C.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $50.00-$60.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 30 per week
