Apex Generating station located in Las Vegas, NV is seeking an HSE Specialist. This position will primarily be responsible for implementation and on-going support of safety, health and environmental (HSE) plans, policies, procedures, and NERC regulatory compliance programs. Candidate should be able to support the site’s management team with strategic HSE planning and program development to further improve the site’s HSE performance. This position reports to the Facility Manager.
Job Responsibilities
•Lead implementation of site-specific HSE programs
•Responsible for PSM program, State of NV CAPP for Anhydrous Ammonia. (Including but not limited to reports, inspections, regulatory filings and permit related work)
•Responsible for all environmental related regulatory filings, inspections, reports and permit related work (Title V, Potable Water Permit, SWPPP, SPCC, Hazardous and Universal Wastes.)
•Responsible for EDRs, semi-annual, annual and compliance reports.
•Provide oversight/management of CEMS.
•Conduct annual & as needed reviews of the HSE procedures and recommend necessary improvements.
•Responsible for HSE compliance for the Power Plant
•Support development and implementation of plant annual HSE plans, goals, and strategies for improving safety and environmental performance.
•Conduct periodic HSE audits and prepare audit reports.
•Review safety incidents or environmental deviations to ensure that effective investigations focusing on cause and corrective measures are implemented and shared by all facilities.
•Support the management of key environmental programs including air quality, hazardous waste, hazardous substance storage, Zero Liquid discharge and pollution prevention.
•Communicate with regulatory agencies as necessary to address environmental reporting, deviations, and notices of non-compliance.
•Develop, review, update, and train employees on applicable spill prevention plans, risk management plans, and storm water pollution prevention plans, permit applications, risk management plans and emergency response plans.
•Conduct, manage, and track HSE related training through the training web site and other facility records.
•Maintain professional affiliations with HSE organizations and other professionals, in order to keep current with new regulations, as well as good management practices.
•Manage, populate, maintain and improve EthosEnergy tools, processes and systems, particularly the compliance management and incident reporting tools.
•Improve HSE skills and knowledge through continuing education and training.
•Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills / Knowledge
•Ability to deal with complex safety, environmental and regulatory situations are required.
•Candidate must be a self-starter with a high degree of initiative and ability to work independently.
•Must be computer proficient (Microsoft Office Suites, Learning Management Systems, EPA, Maximo, NERC and local government reporting software, etc.)
•Adherence to Ethos corporate environmental policies and directives
Experience
•3 - 5 years’ experience in Health, Safety and Environmental compliance
•Strong communication and willingness to have a hands-on approach is required.
•Experience working in a power plant or in an industrial facility is preferred.
Education Requirements
•Bachelor's Degree or commensurate experience/professional training is required as well as a demonstrated track record in developing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures in an industrial setting.
Physical Requirements
•Position requires periods of intense physical exertion, including walking, climbing, and lifting.
•Ability to lift and move material up to 40 pounds.
•Ability to climb and perform a function up to a 12-ft ladder.
