Heavy Equipment Operator

We’re looking for a Heavy Equipment Operator to support our growing team. The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for day-to-day duties on site needed to complete work in a safe and timely fashion and maintain a clean work site. This may include the moving and tracking of materials with various equipment including forklifts, loaders, scoop trams, rock trucks, excavators and hook truck. The Heavy Equipment Operator is also responsible to run the screening plant and is expected to take part in general housekeeping with some manual labour.
- Safe and effective operation of heavy equipment, including forklifts, loaders, scoop trams, rock trucks, excavators, and hook trucks. Keep slip tanks always topped off and conduct thorough pre-operational checks on all equipment.
- Loading a diverse range of materials such as earth, rock, and demolition debris into heavy trucks or train cars.
- Perform preventative maintenance and daily operation checks on equipment, maintain cleanliness and order on site—clean, lubricate, and fuel all equipment, and handle general site housekeeping.
- Safely move materials from excavation sites to designated stockpiles, ensuring efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform general labour tasks as required, including but not limited to digging, sweeping, monitoring, sampling, and spotting for trucks.
- 3-5 years’ experience operating heavy construction equipment.
- Class 3 License with Air Brake certification will be considered an asset.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions, challenging work site environments, and long demanding work days.
- Basic comprehension and ability to follow KBL’s Workplace Health and Safety requirements relevant to the assigned work site, including but not limited to KBL’s “Stop & Think Process” and KBL’s “Hazard Assessment Process”.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be Fit-for-Work each day.
- Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Safely work and travel in all weather conditions.
- Must be willing to work shift work.
