The Equipment Operator is skilled and safety-focused with experience in underground utility construction. The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating heavy equipment to install, repair, and maintain underground utility infrastructure, including gas and electric systems, in compliance with PG&E standards and regulatory requirements
These are functions a qualified incumbent or applicant must be able to perform with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Operate a variety of heavy equipment including excavators, backhoes, trenchers, and skid steers for underground utility installation and maintenance.
- Perform trenching, grading, and backfilling for gas and electric utility lines in mobile home parks and other residential areas.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with PG&E’s MHP Program specifications, safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
- Read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and construction plans to determine equipment operation needs.
- Coordinate with foremen, utility inspectors, and other crew members to ensure efficient and accurate execution of work.
- Conduct routine equipment inspections and maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including daily logs and safety checklists.
- Adhere to all OSHA, DOT, and company safety standards and procedure.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience operating heavy equipment in underground utility construction.
- Prior experience working on PG&E’s MHP Program or similar utility upgrade projects strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of underground utility installation practices, including gas and electric systems.
- Strong understanding of job site safety and compliance requirements.
- OSHA 10 or 30 Certification (or willingness to obtain).
- PG&E Operator Qualifications (OQ).
- First Aid/CPR Certification.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting plans and specifications.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Comfortable utilizing mobile technology and job site software.
- Demonstrates ownership, integrity, and the ability to lead by example.

This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement. Union membership is required upon hire. Candidates must be willing and eligible to join the appropriate union and comply with all related terms and conditions.
The role will require the person hired to commute to different jobs sites anywhere from Redding, CA to San Jose, CA and there is per diem offered.
