Job Description

The Health and Safety Advisor supports the implementation and continuous improvement of health and safety systems across all stages of a large-scale linear construction project. This role focuses on monitoring the effectiveness of safety processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and assisting project teams in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment.

Responsibilities

- Support and promote Surrey-Langley Stations Project Occupational Health & Safety Management System, Construction Site Specific Safety Management Plan.

- Conduct site-specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.

- Training employees in fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, traffic control person, WHMIS, respiratory protection, emergency response.

- Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, Forklift, Propane etc.

- Conduct workplace inspections and audits.

- Conduct behavioral observation in the workplace.

- Update Material Safety Data Sheets as required.

- Develop workplace plans – such as emergency evacuations, fire emergency, traffic controls, fall protection.

- Distribution of safety materials, supplies and equipment.

- Safety presentations.

- Promoting Project's safety system.

- Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.

- Conduct studies and analyze accident trends.

- Inspects project facilities and recommends corrective actions.

- Co-ordinate activities of site-safety coordinators.

- Working with the Claims Administrator assists with workers compensation claims and associated activities.

- Participate in the Development of return to work and modified work programs.

- Support Accident/Incident investigations.

- Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.

- Liaise with Government agencies.

- Prepare and assist with external safety audits.

- Coordination of environmental issues.

- Gather and provide statistical information to estimating for tender packages.

- Assist with other duties as assigned.

Required Skills And Competencies

- Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in the construction industry in a

Health and Safety role.

- WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Attendant Level 3 is preferred.

- Certification as a Construction Safety Officer (CSO) or equivalent.

- National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) is an asset.

- Strong knowledge of WorkSafe BC legislation.

- Background in Training and/or Education and/or experience delivering

EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.

- Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office

(Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

- Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy; excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

- Excellent meeting and training facilitation.

- Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment.

Valid driver’s license with a clean driver's abstract.

This role offers an annual base salary in the anticipated range of $98,000–$106,000 CAD, with compensation determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
