Purpose of Role

The Data Governance Intern will support Kinross’ Data Governance team in strengthening enterprise data management practices across the organization. This role provides hands-on exposure to Data Governance, Data & Metadata Management, Data Quality, and Data Privacy concepts, and offers the opportunity to see how trusted, well-managed data supports business operations, analytics, and decision-making.

The intern will work closely with governance advisors and data stewards to support cataloging activities, data quality development, and documentation of data assets using tools such as Alation, gaining practical experience in the Governance framework that ensure Kinross’ data is accurate, consistent, and compliant.

This internship offers a unique opportunity to explore the foundations of Data Governance and Data Quality within a global mining organization. By supporting Kinross’ efforts to improve data visibility, documentation, and trust, the intern will play a meaningful role in enhancing data-driven decision-making and fostering a culture of accountability and data excellence across the enterprise.

Job Responsibilities

- Assist in maintaining the enterprise data catalog, supporting the documentation of business terms, classifications, and ownership information.

- Support metadata curation and data quality profiling, identifying duplicates, missing values, and inconsistencies across datasets.

- Help design and prepare dashboards, scorecards, or visual summaries to monitor data quality and metadata completeness.

- Assist governance advisors with the classification and tagging of sensitive data, contributing to data privacy and security practices.

- Participate in training sessions, workshops, and roundtables, contributing ideas and learning about data governance frameworks and best practices.

Education and Experience

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Library & Information Science,

- Organizational Behaviour, or a related field at an accredited institution.

- Familiarity with data management or analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Excel, or SQL) is considered an asset.

- Strong interest in Data Governance, Data Quality, Data Privacy, and Metadata Management, and how they support effective decision-making.

- Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.

- Effective communication and teamwork abilities, with curiosity to learn and adapt in a collaborative environment.

- Displays accountability and professionalism, following through on assigned tasks and contributing positively to team objectives.
