PV Squared is a worker-owned cooperative specializing in designing, building, and maintaining solar energy systems for homes, businesses, and institutions across Western Massachusetts and Southern Vermont. The General Manager plays a key leadership role at PV Squared, ensuring operational effectiveness, strategic growth, and alignment with our cooperative values. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the GM partners with departmental leaders, promotes cross-functional collaboration, and supports a thriving democratic workplace.
This role requires a balance of strategic leadership, industry knowledge, and operational execution, ensuring PV Squared delivers on its goals to provide high-quality solar solutions while building a resilient and values-driven cooperative.
- Facilitate organizational performance through collective input and shared leadership. Ensuring alignment with cooperative principles and business objectives.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to achieve growth, focusing on operational efficiency, market penetration, and customer acquisition.
- Drive organizational alignment with strategic goals and ensure the team is motivated and equipped to deliver results.
- Develop and execute both short and long-term strategies to drive growth, revenue, and sustainability.
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors and worker-owners on strategic planning and governance initiatives.
- Foster a culture of accountability, inclusivity, transparency, integrity, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Provide oversight and hands-on support for daily operations across departments- including design, installation, service, sales, and administration, ensuring teams have the resources, guidance, and accountability systems needed to consistently meet performance metrics and adhere to established standards and best practices.
- Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identify risks, and implement corrective actions.
- Develop budgets, forecast performance, and track financial metrics to align with the company’s objectives.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including agreed-upon safety standards.
- Drive continuous improvement through data analysis and process optimization.
- Apply disciplined problem-solving, identifying root causes, using data to clarify issues, and driving resolution by assigning clear ownership, setting next steps, and ensuring accountability through follow-up.
- Develop and refine systems and SOPs to ensure they are effective, simplified, and integrated across the organization.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes with the finance committee.
- Manage P&L, ensuring revenue and profitability goals are met, building toward sustainable growth and scalability.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs and increase profitability without sacrificing quality.
- Support reinvestment planning to ensure long-term financial sustainability of the cooperative
- Lead, coach, and develop the management team by fostering accountability, providing constructive feedback, and supporting professional growth, while regularly evaluating performance against organizational goals.
- Foster a positive, collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture, rooted in shared ownership and accountability.

- Uphold cooperative values and engage worker-owners in decision making processes where applicable.
- Leads initiatives to strengthen collaboration across teams, ensuring visibility into how each role contributes to and impacts shared goals.
- Drive new business development initiatives and grow existing accounts.
- Monitor trends and market dynamics to develop actionable strategies that strengthen PV Squared as an industry leader and create resilience in an evolving market.
- Represent PV Squared with clients, vendors, community partners, local officials, industry stakeholders, and in the community.
- Build and maintain strong relationships that generate new opportunities and reinforce trust.
- Support sales and marketing efforts that expand PV Squared’s impact and reach.
- Promotes the cooperative's role in advancing energy, environmental justice, and local workforce development.
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, finance, operations, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of leadership experience in operations, finance, or general business management.- Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasting, and performance tracking.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building effective teams.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements in construction, renewable energy, or similar industries.
- Progressive leadership experience, ideally in renewable energy, construction, or related industries.
- Experience in a cooperative, employee-owned, or mission-driven organization.
- Familiarity with ERP, CRM, and business intelligence platforms.
- Experience leading organizational change or scaling operations.
