Gaines Oil Company is seeking a CDL-licensed Fuel Polishing Technician to support our Fuel Polishing division. No prior fuel polishing experience is required — full training will be provided. This role is ideal for a dependable CDL driver interested in learning a specialized field service trade involving fuel system maintenance, tank cleaning, and environmental safety.
This position involves regular travel, operating company vehicles and equipment, and working directly at customer sites while maintaining strict safety, DOT, and HazMat compliance.
- Receive and follow job instructions and schedules from the Fuel Polishing Manager.
- Operate fuel polishing equipment and perform tank cleaning services in accordance with company safety and quality standards.
- Drive fuel polishing trailer units to and from job sites using company vehicles.
- Ensure full compliance with DOT and HazMat regulations when transporting equipment and handling fuel.
- Maintain fuel polishing trailers, tools, and related equipment in clean, safe, and operable condition.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns to management.
- Ensure all hoses, fittings, pumps, and spill containment equipment are stocked and functional.
- Take all necessary precautions to prevent fuel spills, leaks, or equipment failures during operations.
- Be trained and prepared to respond to fuel spills in accordance with company and regulatory protocols.
- Follow all safety rules at customer facilities, including required PPE and hazard awareness procedures.
- Adhere to all company policies, safety protocols, and operational procedures.
- Maintain courteous, professional, and respectful interactions with customers and coworkers at all times.
- Communicate job scope, estimated timelines, and any service impacts to customers while on site.
- Relay customer questions, concerns, or service requests to the Fuel Polishing Manager in a timely manner.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the Fuel Polishing Manager regarding job progress, delays, or issues.
- Work collaboratively with team members and assist in training new technicians as directed.
- Participate in job site setup, cleanup, and post-job debriefing activities as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
- HazMat and Tanker endorsements required
- Successful completion of pre-employment and ongoing Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs)
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Experience backing and maneuvering large trailers
- Basic plumbing or mechanical aptitude (connecting hoses, installing gaskets, identifying leaks, etc.)
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Willingness to travel and stay overnight an average of 1–3 nights per week (occasionally 4–5 nights)
- Willingness to work weekends on a limited, as-needed basis
- Dependable, trustworthy, and capable of working independently at customer locations
