As we expand our operations, we are seeking a motivated, experienced fleet manager to contribute to our success.
This is an on-site position based in Sugar Grove, IL.
The Fleet Manager will oversee the management and maintenance of our fleet of vehicles and equipment. The fleet manager will be responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and safety of all fleet assets, as well as optimizing fleet operations to support our construction projects. The Fleet Manager is also responsible for overseeing all material storage, tracking, and deployment on behalf of project management.
- The primary and most crucial duty of the fleet manager is timely and optimized support the field staff.
- Manage the maintenance of fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Develop and implement fleet management policies and procedures to ensure efficient operations according to DOT laws and company policy.
- Schedule and coordinate regular maintenance and repairs to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of fleet assets.
- Monitor and analyze fleet performance metrics, including fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and utilization rates.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, licensing requirements, and environmental standards.
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle and equipment maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
- Collaborate with project managers and supervisors to ensure fleet resources are allocated effectively to meet project needs.
- Negotiate contracts with vendors and service providers for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Implement and manage fleet tracking systems to monitor vehicle locations, usage, and driver behavior.
- Ensure fleet analytics tools are operational and functioning properly.
- Train and supervise fleet personnel, including drivers and maintenance staff.
- Develop and manage the fleet budget, including forecasting and cost control measures.
- Participate in the interview and selection process of new personnel for the department.
- Implement and execute directives of company executives (CEO, COO, CFO).
- Prepare and plan the fleet and equipment needs for the following day.
- Plan and distribute the task schedule for fleet and shop personnel.
- Inspect maintenance and inspection reports and prioritize repairs based on urgency and the efficient use of resources.
- Coordinate and schedule routine or non-urgent maintenance and repair, prioritizing cost and efficiency.
- Mandate that all equipment, trucks, and trailers be inspected after repairs are completed to ensure field worthiness.
- Track, allocate, and submit department purchases to accounting.
- Submit time records for the previous workday for all subordinates within the fleet management department by 0800 hours daily
- Ensure the shop, shop offices and facilities, and material yard are kept clean and orderly.
- Maintain safe practices of all shop and yard activities performed.
- Forward all office mail and packages to the company office by EOD.
- Review fleet usage and metrics for compliance and efficiency - i.e. fuel consumption, idle times, engine health, mileage, etc.
- Check inventory on all customers' owned and tracked materials to update the company manager's inventory report.
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory of shop and field incidental use items. Maintain a list of items, calling out quantities to be stocked and at which level they are to be replenished.
- Prepare and present the monthly fleet and shop budget at the monthly management meeting.
- Ensure vehicle registrations and compliance requirements are executed.
- Maintain an accurate library of safety data sheets (SDS) for all chemicals, mixtures, or solutions used or kept in the maintenance shop or material yard.
- Acquire and install all DOT safety stickers and registration stickers on all trucks and trailers before expiration dates.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, logistics, or a related field, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in fleet management, preferably in the construction or utility industry.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle and equipment maintenance practices and procedures.
- Proficiency in fleet management software and systems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
