The Fleet Maintenance Manager oversees the administrative operations of our fleet shop, ensuring that all vehicles, tools, and equipment are maintained, repaired, and ready for deployment in collaboration with our Mechanic Foreman. This role combines hands-on mechanical expertise with administrative and operational leadership. The Fleet Mainntenance Manager manages inventory, orders parts, processes invoices, coordinates with payroll, and works closely with the logistics team to support roll-outs and returns during and after storm assignments. This position requires strong organizational skills, mechanical knowledge, and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced, storm-response environment.
- Manage parts and supply inventory, ensuring availability of critical items.
- Process purchase orders, invoices, and vendor payments.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records in fleet management systems.
- Coordinate with payroll for shop personnel.
- Coordinate procurement activities, sourcing high-quality components and negotiating vendor agreements.
- Control maintenance budgets and resource allocation to achieve cost efficiency without compromising quality.
- Maintain overall organization of the company yard, ensuring materials, tools, and equipment are properly stored and accessible.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards by keeping pathways, staging areas, and storage zones free of hazards.
- Oversee inventory staging in the yard for upcoming mobilizations, storm call-outs, and routine operations.
- Implement yard procedures that support efficiency, accountability, and readiness.
- Collaborate with the logistics team to ensure timely roll-outs and return of equipment during storm events.
- Support mobilization and demobilization efforts, including preparing vehicles and equipment for deployment.
- Assist with post-storm inspections, repairs, and restocking.
- Directly manage Tools and Materials Inventory manager.
- Schedule shop personnel, assigning workloads to maximize efficiency.
- Foster a safety-first culture and enforce all safety procedures.
- Oversee shop cleanliness, organization, and safety protocols.
- Maintain compliance with state inspections and regulatory requirements.
Other duties as assigned per organizational need.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical certification in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive or heavy equipment repair, including at least 2 years in an administrative role.
- Proven expertise in managing and maintaining specialized equipment.
- Advanced diagnostic capabilities for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with fleet management software and systems.
- Ability to interpret and apply complex technical manuals and schematics.
- Strong administrative skills, including record keeping and vendor management.
- Direct oversight of a Tools & Materials Team, including task delegation, performance management, and training initiatives.
- Manage and monitor maintenance budgets, resource allocation, and vendor negotiations.
