Fitter, Level 2

Job Overview

The Fitter, Level 2 is responsible for fabricating structural steel plates and components according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role includes measuring, cutting, fitting, and preparing steel plates for welding and assembly used in structural steel projects. The fabricator ensures all work meets quality standards, safety requirements, and production timelines.

Responsibilities

- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders.

- Measure, mark, and layout structural steel plates for cutting and fabrication.

- Operate fabrication equipment such as plasma cutters, oxy-fuel torches, rollers, and grinders.

- Cut, shape, and form steel plates to required dimensions and tolerances.

- Fit and assemble structural plate components in preparation for welding.

- Perform tack welding when required to hold components in position.

- Inspect fabricated parts to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.

- Maintain accurate measurements and alignment during assembly.

- Perform grinding, beveling, and edge preparation for weld joints.

- Work with overhead cranes, forklifts, and material handling equipment to move steel plates safely.

- Maintain a clean and organized work area.

- Follow all workplace safety procedures and wear required PPE.

- Collaborate with welders, fitters, and supervisors to ensure efficient production.

- Welding plate material using FCAW and GTAW.

Qualifications

- Welder Certificate from acceptable reputed welding Association or work experience for at least 5 years.

- Familiar with a variety of welder concepts, practices, and procedures under AWS (American Welding Society) or any international standards.

- Ability to understand welding symbols and diagrams, read blueprints, and/or other printed instructional material in the welding of products or parts.

- Must be thoroughly familiar with welding equipment such as grinders, plate clamps, over head crane, flux, hoses, valves, and gas cylinders.

- Forklifts Training Certificate an Asset.

- Ability to work within a team and independently to complete daily activities according to work schedule.

- Detail oriented.

- Good verbal and written communication skills in English is required.

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
