The Opportunity:
Reporting to the HSE Manager and working closely with field operations mostly in Northern Alberta, and also in BC, and SK, you will a key member in facilitating knowledge of and compliance with federal and provincial OH&S legislation. You have a keen eye for detail and are described as someone with excellent relationship-building skills. Key Responsibilities:
The Field Safety Advisor is accountable for collaboratively liaising with a variety of internal and external customers to support the organization in mitigating operational risks and achieving strategic departmental goals.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Provide safety support to supervisors, employees, and clients.
•Work closely with the HSE Manager keeping the manager informed of all HSE administration issues that arise, which could impact achieving the goal of zero accidents, create legal liability, and/or affect legislative compliance.
•Spend 80% of workday conducting field activities and 20% of workday performing administrative duties.
•Assist in conducting formal and informal safety audits and inspections.
•Conduct new hire safety orientations and other safety related training.
•Mentor trainees and short service employees
•Conduct behavior observations and communicate results to the responsible supervisor.
•Conduct competency assessments of personnel regarding safety training.
•Inspect offices, shops, vehicles, equipment to identify and correct potential hazards.
•Lead the Investigation of accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
•Interview employees in partnership with supervision to obtain information about workplace incidents.
•Aid in the planning of high-risk production activities to ensure safety requirements have been met.
•Report the findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing.
•Evaluate adequacy of actions taken to correct worksite inspection deficiencies, and incident mitigation measures.
•Setup and maintain health and safety recordkeeping to track compliance with health and safety systems and processes.
•Gather, review, and distribute safety-related statistical information.
•Organize, maintain, digitize, and coordinate records and files in SiteDocs.
•Perform data entry and assist in the compilation of data for various reports.
•Maintain health and safety action register and incident recordkeeping system.
•Provide external WCB Claims Manager with incident and return to work documentation as required.
•Complete Employer report of injury on the online WCB Reporting system in partnership with the HSE Manager.
•Ensure that all applicable certifications, reports, and forms required to administer an effective safety program are obtained from employees.
•Other Duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
•5+ years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry
•Post-secondary education in safety, or another related field
•Professional Designation as a Safety Officer (NCSO)
•Demonstrated intermediate level of skill in MS Office products
•Capable of multi-tasking and working to demanding deadlines
•Self-starter with a proven ability to work independently
•Excellent relationship-building skills
•Proven ability to adhere to tight deadlines, particularly in high pressure situations
•Ability to constructively participate and interface with all management levels and clients
•Excellent organizational, planning, and scheduling skills
•Strong oral and written communication ability
•Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
•Successfully pass the Pre-Employment Alcohol and Drug Screening Test
