About This Job

PETRONAS Canada is one of the largest natural gas resource owners in Canada. We have operations in the Montney play in northeast British Columbia and are a partner in LNG Canada. As part of PETRONAS, a dynamic global energy group with presence in over 100 countries, we are well-positioned to provide global markets with responsibly-developed Canadian energy while supporting local jobs, collaborating with Indigenous communities and protecting the environment.

At PETRONAS Canada, we are committed to building Canada’s energy future – and people are fundamental to our success. We foster a culture of open collaboration and empowerment across our team of skilled professionals, while supporting career development opportunities. We are looking for can-do problem solvers to join our team who are innovative and passionate about driving strong safety, operational and sustainability performance in everything we do. Our unique culture and commitment to growth makes the company a great place to build your career.

The Role

We are seeking a skilled and ambitious leader to join our team in Fort St. John, BC, as the Field Lead. You will play a pivotal role in managing the day-to-day field operations and will work closely with the Remote Operations Centre (ROC) Leads in Calgary to ensure smooth and efficient execution. Your leadership skills and attention to detail will be vital in guiding a team of Field Operations professionals, ensuring that all activities align with PETRONAS Canada's policies, operational models, and safety standards.

Your technical proficiency will be instrumental in worksite management, commissioning of complex capital projects, and mentorship of subordinate Operators. You will also assist with the execution of continuous improvement initiatives and provide technical expertise to engineering teams, ensuring improved production, reliability, and efficiency. With a focus on delivering outstanding results, you will bring your expertise and drive to ensure that operations run smoothly and safely.

This exciting opportunity is based at a camp approximately 1.5 hours north of Fort St. John, BC. You'll enjoy a stable schedule with a standardized 15-day on, 13-day off rotation. This is a safety sensitive position, and therefore you are required to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and effective leader who takes pride in developing talent within their organization and is committed to upholding PETRONAS’ culture of safety, innovation, integrity, and collaboration within an entrepreneurial environment.

How You Will Contribute

- Lead and manage the critical daily operational, maintenance, and compliance activities outlined by the Remote Operations Center (ROC) to ensure the safe and successful delivery of business results

- Exemplify effective leadership and mentorship to the Field Operations team, guiding their delivery of objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs), as well as overseeing succession planning, vacation coverage, time approvals, and performance management

- Manage third-party contractors, handle general inquiries, and oversee resident management, routine service providers, and quality of service reviews to ensure seamless operations

- Support Emergency Response Planning, including updating evacuation plans and preparing for wildfire scenarios

- Facilitate team meetings as well as actively manage team’s training and competency assessment

- Proactively investigate incidents, identify hazards, and implement effective solutions to ensure a safe working environment

- Act as subject matter expert representing operations, providing input for hazardous operations reviews and facility design reviews

- Collaborate with internal stakeholders on the design, commissioning, and routine operation of facility construction and MOC projects

- Serve as the Person in Charge (PIC) for major maintenance and turnaround activities, including engine swaps, tank and vessel cleaning, decommissioning of legacy equipment, and the startup and return to operation

What You Bring

- 10+ years of experience with progressive responsibilities in Operations, preferably in oil and gas industry

- Current and valid certification in, or the ability to obtain, H2S Alive, Standard First Aid and CPR

- A valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driver’s abstract

- Proficiency with Power BI, PVR and SCADA systems will be considered an asset

- Strong organizational and prioritizing skills; ability to handle multiple responsibilities while maintaining a professional demeanor even in critical and time sensitive situations

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to listen to others' needs and concerns and respond appropriately and in a timely manner
