York Water is seeking a Field Customer Service Representative to support our Customer Service and Meter Reading Departments through a hybrid role that combines in-office responsibilities with hands-on fieldwork. What You’ll Do:
As a Field Customer Service Representative, you will:
•Serve as a point of contact for customers in person, over the phone, and via email regarding service issues, billing inquiries, unusual water usage, and water quality concerns.
•Process requests for new service, turn-ons, turn-offs, and account changes in accordance with PA Public Utility Commission (PUC) regulations and company policy.
•Prepare and post delinquent notices, complete shut-offs and turn-ons for non-payment, and assist in collection efforts.
•Read meters, respond to field orders, and investigate customer complaints related to service, leaks, or meter issues.
•Prepare documentation for service applications, complaint responses, payment agreements, and regulatory compliance.
•Respond to service-related emails and maintain accurate customer records.
•Demonstrate working knowledge of the Company’s tariff and PA PUC rules and regulations.
•Navigate York County roadways efficiently and locate service addresses using maps and company tools.
•Provide professional, courteous service in all customer interactions—whether in the office or in the field.
What We’re Looking For:
Education & Experience:
•Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field preferred.
•Prior customer service experience required; field or utility-related experience is a plus.
Communication Skills:
•Clear and professional verbal and written communication.
•Bilingual skills preferred but not required.
Technical Skills:
•Ability to learn and work with customer service systems, mapping tools, and handheld field equipment.
•Familiarity with regulatory guidelines and utility billing is helpful.
Licenses & Certifications:
•Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required.
Other Requirements:
•Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
•Comfortable working independently in the field and collaborating with office teams.
•Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
