This position performs complex analyses of short- and long-term electric and natural gas supply trends, supports portfolio optimization, and contributes to strategic decisions related to energy resource adequacy, reliability, and financial performance. The role develops, maintains, and executes power system models (including PLEXOS and PROMOD) to inform planning, regulatory filings, and operational decisions that align with company objectives and compliance requirements.

Core Responsibilities Note: This is not an all-inclusive listing

- Develop and maintain power system models (like PLEXOS and PROMOD) models to evaluate generation expansion, resource adequacy, and transmission constraints.

- Perform market and production cost modeling to assess power supply portfolios, identify risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.

- Analyze short- and long-term energy and fuel market trends, price forecasts, and regional market dynamics (e.g., MISO).

- Support integrated resource planning, regulatory filings, and internal decision-making through scenario and sensitivity analysis.

- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Regulatory Affairs, Finance, and Energy Operations to ensure alignment of forecasts and planning assumptions.

- Administer and enhance analytical tools, databases, and forecasting processes to support planning and market operations.

- Provide insights and recommendations to leadership on market opportunities, policy changes, and long-range planning considerations.

- Prepare reports, presentations, and visualizations to communicate analytical findings and modeling results to technical and non-technical audiences.

- Continuously improve analytical methods, data integrity, and automation of processes to enhance business efficiency.

- Serve as a technical subject matter expert for modeling software, including troubleshooting, configuration, and data validation.

- Proficiency with PLEXOS Modeling software, PROMOD or similar energy modeling tools required.

- Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, including statistical analysis and forecasting.

- Knowledge of structured energy markets (e.g., MISO) and power system operations.

- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, SQL Server, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).

- Familiarity with programming or scripting (e.g., Python, R, or VBA) preferred.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable insights.

- Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Education

Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Energy Systems, or related field. • Master’s degree or relevant certification (e.g., energy modeling, market operations, or data analytics) preferred.

Experience

- Minimum of two years of experience in energy resource planning, supply analysis, or market operations.

- Experience with production cost modeling, system planning, or portfolio optimization is strongly preferred.
