JOB SUMMARY:

The Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance Person is responsible for both electrical and mechanical works and performs regular and preventative operations and maintenance of hydro-electric generating equipment. The Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance Person also participates in annual and preventative maintenance activities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessarily restricted to the following:

- Maintain the highest level of electricity generation possible and water level compliance.

- Perform mechanical and electrical operations and maintenance at generating facilities.

- Participate in annual and preventative maintenance activities.

- Perform regular routine inspections and rounds to check that all electrical and mechanical equipment is functioning properly.

- Perform electrical switching as required.

- Lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) equipment as required.

- Monitor and record accurate readings (generation and water levels) on a daily basis.

- Operate hydraulically controlled trashrake.

- Perform control dam maintenance as required, such as remove debris, installing flash boards, booms, using a boat.

- Work on control dams using appropriate safety equipment.

- Learn and maintain a working knowledge of all plant equipment.

- Perform routine safety inspections.

- Learn and apply knowledge of safety equipment and procedures: hard hats, safety harnesses/lanyards, eye protection, ear protection, foot wear, rubber gloves, hoods, shields, energy isolation/LOTO, working near water ways, working at heights, confined space entry etc.

- Comply and work in accordance with all company and safety policies and procedures in a safe and efficient manner.

- Report all incidents and deficiencies to the supervisor and call for assistance as required.

- Practice and promote good housekeeping practices in all work areas.

- Practice and promote proper use and care of power tools, chainsaws, drills, hand tools, etc.

- Practice and promote proper care and use of company motor vehicle.

- Be available for on-call and call-ins, as needed (nights, weekends, holidays)

- Respond to emergency situations and conditions (e.g. black-outs, oil spills, floods, fires, etc.).

- Perform mechanical troubleshooting.

- Perform electrical troubleshooting.

- Awareness of potential problems and initiate corrective action before it becomes a problem or notify the supervisor if unable to take action.

- Clean, grease and oil equipment on a regular basis.

- Maintain cleanliness of powerhouse and facilities (sweep & wash floors, clean washrooms and windows, dust equipment, etc.).

- General building and grounds maintenance work such as: painting, snow shoveling, snow plowing, grass mowing, weed eating, raking, window washing, etc.

- Interact with supervisor, co-workers, and administrative office to maintain smooth operations.

- Participate in formal training classes.

- Perform other tasks as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Certified as a Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic Millwright or Journeyperson Electrician; or

- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) and enrolled in an accredited 8,000 hour college-based apprenticeship program as an Industrial Mechanic Millwright or Electrician or equivalent

- Relevant experience considered an asset

- Electrical and mechanical knowledge considered an asset

- Work Protection Code certification or LOTO experience considered an asset

- CPR/First Aid certification considered an asset

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

- English essential; both oral and written

- Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset

- Valid driver’s license - Class G, and at least two years of clean driving record

- Successful completion of Driver Competency Assessment

The terms and conditions of employment are governed by the collective agreement between EO Generation Limited Partnership and Local 636 of the IBEW.
