Job Overview:
We are seeking a dynamic, passionate, and experienced Director of People and Culture to continue cultivating an inclusive, high-performance and engaged culture at our cooperative. The ideal candidate will be deeply committed to the development and well-being of our team members, working closely with the leadership team to align human resources (HR) strategies with the cooperative’s goals. This individual will take the lead in recruiting talent, fostering employee engagement, administering benefits, and ensuring legal compliance across various HR functions. This position will oversee corporate events, employee development, internal communications, HR processes and procedures, and has one direct report.
The Director of People and Culture will also be a key player in ensuring a healthy work environment and providing leadership in areas including staff development, compensation, performance management, and employee relations.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Culture Development:
•Design, implement, and lead HR strategies that align with the company’s goals and corporate culture.
•Foster a healthy, engaged, and collaborative workplace by building upon initiatives that support employee engagement, retention, and professional development.
•Build upon recruiting programs that attract high-quality candidates.
•Potential to eventually lead negotiations for the co-op’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.
•Potential to eventually lead corporate strategy & corporate Strategic Performance Plan.
•Oversees Personnel policies and Cooperative procedures.
Recruitment & Onboarding:
•Manage the recruitment, interviewing, hiring and onboarding process for all roles.
•Actively participate in hiring and onboarding, ensuring new employees feel welcomed, supported, and informed about company policies and culture.
Employee Development & Performance Management:
•Coordinate and support employee development programs, including training, apprentice feedback sessions, professional development plans, and succession planning.
•Collaborate with department heads to ensure follow-through on quarterly feedback meetings, training reports, and development plans.
•Lead the application and documentation for training grants as available.
Compliance & Risk Management:
•Along with 3rd party assistance, maintain HR regulatory compliance by staying up to date on federal, state, and local laws related to employment, including, but not limited to, EEO, OSHA, ADA, HIPAA, labor laws, and other relevant regulations.
•Manage the administration of company benefits.
•Oversee the application for company sponsored work visas, with support from counsel.
•Manage the organization’s Drug & Alcohol testing program.
Employee Relations & Recordkeeping:
•Act as a trusted advisor in resolving employee relations issues, including participation and sometimes leading in disciplinary meetings and oversight of employee departures.
•Maintain accurate records of all HR-related issues, employee files, and compliance documentation to ensure legal and efficient administration.
•Oversee and maintain employee records in accordance with organizational policies and legal requirements.
Compensation & Benefits:
•Oversee compensation and benefits programs. Ensure they remain competitive and compliant with policies, as well as federal, state, and local laws.
Corporate Documents, Policy Development & Compliance:
•Oversee key corporate documents including bylaws, articles of incorporation, etc.
•Oversee Election Process, Cooperative Governance and Board Relations.
•Lead the development and update of cooperative’s policies, ensuring policies reflect the needs of the organization while remaining compliant with all legal and regulatory requirements.
•Provide guidance and answer employee questions regarding policies, benefits, and procedures.
Qualifications:
•Education: Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
•HR certification (i.e., PHR, SHRM-SCP) or ability to obtain certification within one year required.
•A master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
•Minimum of 5 years of experience in human resources.
•3 years in a leadership role is preferred.
Expertise:
•Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and regulatory requirements.
•Proven track record in developing and implementing employee development, retention, and engagement programs.
•Experience in managing benefits administration.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
•Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking and use of keyboard/computer; and occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Requires finger dexterity, good vision and hearing, ability to speak, and the ability to perform close work. Office equipment used occasionally includes personal computers, related software, copy machines, etc.
•Some travel (day and/or overnight) required.
